I need to vent...I am sooo depressed. We have a VERY extensive set-up and were about half way done. The front was ALL done. Windows boarded up, moss on the gutters, a COMPLETE this is halloween dispay set to lights using LOR including a 15ft jack, fencing, coffins, monks, hay, cornstalks and that's just the front....we have (or had) a complete maze in the backyard. We have 6 sections that are different themes, had the cemetery all done, the bat cave covered and built, vampire area almost done. But no....for 45 mins and 35+mph winds took 1 straight weeks worth of work down. I mean down!! Broken walls, plastic everywhere. Very cool thing though happened....a lady from another subdivision specifically came to the house asking if we needed help securing our stuff. I have no idea who she was, she just really enjoyed driving by every day and knew we were gonna need help once the wind started. My help is going to have to be thursday and friday to make sure we are 'open" for the kids at 6:30 Friday night. I don't know how we are going to pull it off...it's suppose to be 11 to 25 mph winds off and on till thurs. i don't dare put anything back up till then. I am tired just thinking about it.....

That's horrible, sorry that happened to you. I started putting things up and the rain and wind started here today too and it is all ruined. I will have to start over again later in the week. Nice of someone to admire your display and come help though.

I am sorry that happened to you. To have an extensive display like that, you have dedication. With dedication , I have no doubt that you will have everything up and ready to go.

We've been getting tons of rain here. The weatherman said today it is the 6th wettest October since they started keeping track of that kind of thing. The forcast says its suppose to clear out Friday morning and be good Saturday night. Because all my stuff is handmade and I don't think it will handle much rain, everything is still sitting in my garage and living room. Not a single thing has gone up. Your story makes me feel a little better about waiting. Sorry everything got ruined but hopefully you can salvage the holiday. Good luck!

Where are you located? Maybe some other haunters on the forum are near-by and could offer their help as well!

That was nice of your neighbor. We usually wait until Halloween to put up most stuff because of the weather and ny husband is afraid of vandals. I am sorry that happened. Do you live in Southern Calif. I live in Santa Clarita, and they are predicting winds the next couple of days. I live in a bit of a canyon, so we always have winds this time of year. The good thing is you know how everything was. Half of my problem is trying to figure out how I want to set it up.

And send out a mass email to all of your family, friends, and party guests letting them know what happened and asking for help.

Also post on your facebook, myspace, and twitter accounts. Include pictures.

Finally, talk to your neighbors, or create a flyer and put it in their mailboxes. I am sure you neighbors enjoy your display and would want to help you.

Remember what the wind, rain, and snow takes away... our family, friends, and neighbors can rebuild!

Here in NY, we had a ripping storm pass through Saturday night. I mean, hurricane-like. Had I put anything out, it not only would have been wrecked, but I figure everyone in the neighborhood would now own my props from them blowing away! It is simply NOT doable to setup early here. For three consecutive years, winds have been a serious problem pre-halloween. I have learned from that and have had to scale back what I'd truly like to do because of prevailing weather conditions in the area. There is simply no getting around it. It is a shame. I do a nice setup in the front, as you can see by clicking my '08 link. I do that in one day, usually the day before. That's as big as I can get and still be able to get it done in one day. Wind is a sad fact. What can you do? Nothing, I'm afraid. And we expect showers on halloween here too.

Weather is the number one reason I haven't attemped a full walk through in my back yard- a yard which is so perfect for it it kills me each year not to go for it. What a walk through I could do, I tell ya. I've had it planned for years, but cannot commit to doing it because of the weather. And that friends, is the real BOO!

Great advice. Sorry to hear this it can be so frustrating. When propping I'm told I overkill but it's things like this I'm keeping in mind while constructing and placement.
What doesn't kill you can still make you walk funny.

We had a terrible windstorm last night. We were 90% fiished, thanks to nice weather over the weekend. My husband and I were out at 3am running after props and decorations down the street.

Several items were against our neighbors' houses, but I was afraid to get too close to any windows, etc and be mistaken for a robber and get shot. We lost 3 tombstones, huge amounts of moss and webbiing, etc.

Luckily we grabbed most of the "good" stuff before it could blow away.

I was so upset to see our display in the morning light. It looks like a hurricane hit our cemetery, just some fencing, stakes, and a few stray stones.

The forecast calls for more rain/wind tomorrow and Friday. We decided just to wait the rest of the week and see if the weather improves.

We do LOR as well, but only on the big night. The wasted time, money, etc of putting our display up early is just not worth it anymore. We decided to wait until Halloween day next year. My husband will just have to take the day off and we will work our tails off to get it done in one day.

We have been doing a yard display for close to 20 years and the last two years have been so destructive weather wise.

Good luck to you, OP! Looks like we all have weather worries this year!
