I just got the email from my son's kindergarten teacher...since not all families celebrate Halloween they're having a FALL party. No Halloween. No costumes, BUT they can bring a picture of their costume to share next week. Ugh! I'm so bummed out. I know this was discussed before, but I'm sooooo disappointed. I guess I should have known.I remember my school Halloween parties fondly and loved dressing up in our costumes and decorating pumpkins. Even my younger son's daycare is having a Halloween party where they get to dress up and TOT to each other's rooms. I just had to vent and knew you all would understand.

Welcome in Germany. Sorry, I know you're living in the States but that's how it is here. Sad all over.

This is the most queer thing I've heard for a while. Since not all families celebrate it? So what, that's not the kids fault!!! I bet if they did they'd enjoy it! What's not to enjoy! If anything, schools should be pushing for Halloween dress up - a great opportunity to display and share creativity! Urgh.
I loved the Halloween discos my Primary school use to have, so much fun!

Is this your first kiddo in the school system? Because, yeah, that's pretty standard practice anymore. I remember being a kid a wearing our costumes to school, so much fun!
"Where ya going, baby? You going to get the corpses?"
"Yes, Moe...I'm going to get the corpses..."

Stranger -Yep, he's my first. Kindergarten this year. I know I shouldn't have been suprised, but I was. It seems ridiculous to me. I would assume that the majority of people celebrate Halloween in some fashion, TOTing mostly, so a handful of families get to dictate what the rest of the school does. Irritating!!!

I remember when my daughter was in primary 1 they wheren't allowed to wear costumes because its might scare the more skittish ones, and in primary 2 they didnt do ny halloween stuff because her teacher was a very devout christian, but her primary 3 teacher who is now her teacher in primary 4 is as nuts about Halloween as I am so the kids get to wear what they want on the day closest to Halloween.
It just depends on the teachers really.. which is a shame.
It's like that school in England last year where they had to push the nativity back to after christmas because of Eid, which was really weird and annoyed all the parents including the Muslim ones.
Surely there is room for every festival.

Here they stopped having them wear costumes because the older ones might show up not wearing enough to cover themselves, which I thought they should have just sent them home.
But they said too that it was too disrputive to the school day. Still have a halloween party but there is some law about foods with little nutritional value or something I am not sure of the specifics on that but for awhile no cupcakes or cookies. I have been assigned drinks and just bought the juicy juice just to be sure.

What on Earth is going on in America>>>>>?
Happy to report that my two nephews are having a Halloween day at their school on Friday (in the South East part of England), no costumes but everything else is dedicated to Halloween. The steeples are white in the wild moonlight,
And the trees have a silver glare;
Past the chimneys high see vampires fly,
And harpies of upper air. That flutter, laugh and stare.

Our kids are encouraged to dress up and there's a parade at school that all the parents are invited to. There are definitely rules about the costumes. We got a flyer home from the principal about it last week, but it's pretty much the same each year. If a child breaks the costume rules then he or she can't participate, etc. but nobody ever does break the rules because they're pretty obvious stuff--no showing bellies, no weapons, etc.

Have to add, some of my fondest memories I have from my childhood of my Dad and I are from when we'd make my Halloween costumes for the school dress up day/disco. They were great times.
