Well folks, this is it - I'm leaving in 10 mins for our dry run tonight, the only dress rehearsal we're having before The Big Day. I'm really hoping our people will show up, 90% of our scares are dependent on our actors!!!
This is our second year running the POA haunted house. We did a massive yard haunt for 10 years until we ran out of room. We then moved out to the boonies and found out that our POA did a fall festival that culminated in a haunted house. The haunt wasn't much - an old barn with cobwebs and a dracula costume that they only ran once - so we offered to donate our props, and turned out we had more stuff than they did! So they gave the barn to us to take over. We started work on it in July that year (like we did our haunt) and were quickly overwhelmed and ran out of time. We scared a lot of folks in 2008, but I always had that gut feeling that it was too rushed and wasn't up to par for OUR haunt. So we buckled down - that Halloween night we spent going over the 2009 theme and we started physical work on the haunt in January. I've been working on props at home during the week and DH has done a workday at the haunt almost every single Saturday since January. It is beyond time consuming, exhausting, frustrating (over 450 POA members and we have maybe 4 volunteers!!!!), but it's oh-so-worth it in the end. I cannot fathom how many hours we've put into this. It's a labor of love, but nerve-wracking....we're expecting 300 people. We're using $600 of the POA money. And our name is ALL over this. If we screw up, then we're going to get a lot of folks angry. So everything has to be perfect. No pressure, no pressure, no pressure.....
Anyways, I had to vent/scream/whatever because I know you all will understand. I've been on this board a long time and know you guys are just as sick as I am.I still sit back and think what the HECK am I doing. We easily put a few hundred, if not thousand, hours of our time - and OWN money - into what? 2 hours of scaring people we don't even know? But when that first group goes through and ends up running half a mile out the door, screaming hysterically....OMG it's so worth it!
Wish us luck! I'm taking massive photos tonight, I'll get those up soon to show off our hospital gore this year.
