I am currently in the process of trying to once again achieve a long time goal of mine. I want to start my own effects company/house in the Johnson City, TN area. I have been toying with this idea for a few years now. I don't exactly have the means to do it yet, but hopefully will soon. I want to gear towards the smaller haunters and provide deals for those people who want professional looking props/masks/prosthetics, but don't have the "professional" budget. I would really like some feedback on what people think of this idea. It would be in an area that doesn't exactly have that sort of thing everywhere such as LA, however I know from living there for 23 years that there are a lot of horror fans, and also 2 major colleges with excelent theatre programs and a professional theatre about 45 mins away. So I am just trying to get some public opinons on this and would greatly appreciate some feedback! Thanks!

I think it's a great idea that you are thinking of the middle and lower budgit customers. I say go for it and best of luck.

I think it sounds like a great idea. I for one get tired of seeing the same things in all the Halloween stores, to have someone doing something unique would be wonderful. Good luck!!

With the internet and ebay, you can work any where and still make money as long as there is a desire for your product.
I am sure that you are very talented and that there will be a huge demand for your props.
Just remember your friends at Halloween Forum when you become the #1 special effects company in the world.Darkness has a hunger that's insatiable

Do you have any animatronics background, such as servo work. The way I see it is people want awesome prosthetics, animatronic kits, and innovation all on the cheap. I applaud for taking the leap and following your dream. Me and some buddies are looking at opening a small haunt in a leased building. Then doing some prop building commissions during the off-season. Again I applaud you, and am jealous.

Thanks for the positive feedback everyone. To biggie, I do not have any animatronics experience yet, but I plan to take Dick Smith's online course which teaches about animatronics and puppetry. I am super excited about getting to do this. Also, to Aero4Ever, I will most likely still carry some of the same props that other stores carry, just to have more to offer, but I will want to specialize in unique and original props and prosthetics. I do hope to one day become the #1 prop builder in the world one day, but would settle to just be in the company of the greats lol.
