Fort Worth Says Haunted House Is Nightmare on Wilkie Way | NBC Dallas-Fort Worth
Here in Fort Worth the city ordinance administrator is shutting down this couple's yard haunt. It was a really sad story. Completely uncecesary. They have been operating for 12 years without incident and all the kids in the area are really upset over it. I think this is just picking on the little guy. The guy was almost laughing on the news program. "I'm not the guy who killed Halloween" he smirked. Well for those people and those kids you have.
If anyone wants to email the ordinance admin and give him your thoughts, here is the contact information...
brandon.bennett@fortworthgov.org
I encourage everyone to email so that the home owners might have a chance to at least keep it up for this year. I mean the guy has pretty much finished his haunt. Its malicious.

That really sucks but I guess you do need to stay within state and city codes.

I read the article but there wasn't really enough information for me to make a decision. Am I missing something? IMHO, it totally depends on how interactive the structure is. If it's a facade piece or something like that -- then I think they're really over-reacting. If it's something that ToTs are walking through -- then I think it should be as safe as possible.

Well I saw the report on the news. It was a lot more in-depth. Hopefully they will add that to the page soon.

The article says that a complaint was made. In that case, the city of Fort Worth had no choice but to investigate. The proper permits were never issued and no inspections have been done to insure the safety of the patrons. It's too bad kids will be disappointed this year but it would be a tragedy if the building caught fire or colapsed with kids inside. The owners can seek the proper permits and jump through the necessary hoops next year.

Okay, found the little video clip and played it.
Now I can say, "That Sucks!!!!" what a little pi$$er. Just a tiny little man with a little bit of power. Napolean complex, anyone?
It's a sad article, but what would it take for the Domms to "meet code"? I mean, if all they need is a $50 permit and an inspector to come through, I say go for it!
Let Halloween live!!

I've seen a few posts on here about private haunts being shut down because of 1 complaint. I always wonder who is that 1 person who had a problem. These people were doing it for 12 years. Who suddenly became unhappy about it. I agree if it was unsafe then it was unsafe but who was that 1 person???

Same story at a haunt near my work, just outside Los Angeles. Anonymous complaint.. and the haunt gets squashed. Linked to the story below:

Yeah, I think it really sucks that ONE PERSON can ruin something for an entire community.
I live in a great neighborhood, but behind us, across a small creek, is a noisy bar. They moved into the location two years ago and have brought all manner of trouble with them (loud noise, shouting people, public intoxication, fights, extreme mess, etc) Our community has complained numerous times, we have written letters to the Liquor Board, contacted the local police chief (who is on our side) and done as much as we can do within the law. And yet, the bar is still there, doing the same crap.
My point (if you're still reading) is that it frustrates me that an entire community can complain about a loud bar and nothing happens (for two years now!), but ONE PERSON complains about a neighbor and a 12 year tradition comes to a tragic end. That's sad and wrong.
I truly want to keep my neighbors happy!!
