Hi, I'm working on a Halloween assignment for a Journalism class. Does anybody want to talk about why they use this site, or about Halloween in general?

hi, I'm new here and will try and help you out as much as I can.

As a member of other forums on the internet, I was curious if halloween had a forum. I googled 'halloween forum' and found this site. I signed up immediately because I wanted to talk with other people of same interests as me about a subject I like very much. Also because this forum has lots of new posts that I can make replies to. halloween getting closer and having quite strong cultural beliefs in the halloween tradition, I thought I should sign up to this site too. This site could also be a good opportunity for me to show my craft skills in making halloween decorations and other stuff. So there are a lot of reasons why I chose in signing up to this site. However, I found this site through these reasons, and not everyone else will have the same interests as me, meaning this site gets surprising low members despite halloween being a gloabally recognised tradition through people not needing or wanting to talk about a tradition theyve known about for years. btw, I love the site, and the 'low members' bit is not a dig at it or anything.

I hope I have helped you out in some way, sorry to bore you to death, happy halloween!

You'll get tons of responses from members. I love this site. The members are lovely, the tutorials are excellent. It's a very inspiring place to be if you love the spirit of Halloween

    Hey,
Thanks so much for your reply! (you aren't boring me!) Do you think you could tell me why you like Halloween so much, or a little bit more about your cultural beliefs related to the tradition?

I've always been fascinated with horror movies, the paranormal. As a child I loved watching hammer house of horror movies and your typical classics from the 1980's. I remember as a girl going into the video store and they had a section at the back, it had shelves of horror movies and bats hanging from the ceiling. I used to spend ages looking at the cover art.

So naturally I love Halloween, it's my favourite night of the year. I love to see the kids dressed in their costumes, the smiles on their faces. Even the air smells like it's different on Halloween night. I'm an atheist, so religion has nothing to do with it for me. It's all about the atmosphere that attracts me.

    ofcourse -

My cultural beliefs come mainly from my age, being a teenager that is. this is because I think older people lose the belief in halloween and anything related like ghosts or zombies etc. I also like it for the extensive use of my favourite colour, black , and some of the gothic things mixed within halloween like old gothic style gates and castles etc. So you could say in your report that some people have a love for halloween because of their love of other subjects, like history being one example. Friends and also being exposed to gothic culture is also why I love the tradition.

Hope I'm making myself a little more clearer.

I am baptist, raised southern baptist we did not really celebrate halloween when I was a child. Growing up we lived next door to an elderly couple I would spend lots of time with. They were like grandparents to me and every year they would go all out at Halloween. I loved helping them pass out candy and I enjoyed seeing the children get excited about the flying ghost or the cackling witch. When I grew up and had a family of my own I decided that my kids would love Halloween as much as I do. Our home became the house that all the neighborhood kids were drawn to and my kids loved having their friends over. I would go all out with food and decorations and scary movies on the television. Now that my kids are grown they enyoy Halloween as much as I do and love to help me plan the annual party. There is also something great about dressing up and being someone totally different if even just for one day. For me the excitement starts brewing in September as Halloween approaches. I guess for those who love Halloween it is kind of like Christmas for others. There is a certain feel and smell in the air and excitement all around us and a sadness when it is over.

Thanks so much you guys, this is great.
Just in case you aren't sick of me yet...
Would you consider yourselves part of a sub-culture? Andy_Industries mentioned Goth culture - do you identify with that group (as in, would you consider yourself a Goth?)
Or, as Tippy mentioned, is it just that there's a special atmosphere around Halloween? What do you usually do on Halloween night?

I love paranormal things and have been in love with Halloween for as long as I can remember. For me it is the ambiance of the holiday. I love horror films and anything to do with ghosts. Religion doesn't fit into it anywhere for me because I am an Agnostic.
