Ok after reading all the theft reports so far I had an idea.I have cameras and a 12 guage but for those a bit more timid maybe this will help.I was at Menards and found a 4 pack of these little alarms for 5 bucks.
Now you can attach one hunk to your prop and the other to a hunk of pvc beaten into the ground next to the prop so they make contact. They have 2 faced tape on them,I would use hot glue.Be sure to attach the ALARM side to the prop so if they run off with it the alarm will be going off as they carry it.I would also tape over the on/off switch so it takes a few seconds for them to figure out how to disable it as they run.And this is a brief video of the sound it makes. Not a giant explosion but it may cause them to split before doing more damage.
I hope this helps someone.

Although I wouldn't recommend shooting at a 13 year old who is trying to steal the 4 dollar tombstone from wal-mart these buzzers are a good idea. But I doubt they are loud enough to be heard in the house especially at night while sleeping.
I think that outside of taking all your decorations in at night (or not putting any out to begin with) the risk of someone jacking your stuff is just a way of life.
Sometimes the world we live is scarier than anything having to do with Halloween, I suppose.

They wouldn't be loud enough to hear in the house no, but i think the point Skullboys trying to make is they wouldn't be expecting it.
Instant fear of being caught in the act would kick in and they'd just drop whatever they were planning to take and run.
Good idea.

It is a good idea. Plus you can mod to make it work the way you want. Maybe even louder.
