Just wanted to post this little blurb from the Seattle Times this morning:
Halloween Mistake
A decomposing body remained on an apartment balcony in Marina del Rey, Calif., for days because neighbors thought it was part of a Halloween display. Mostafa Mahmoud Zayed, 75, apparently had been dead since Monday with a gunshot wound to one eye. A police investigator termed it "apparent suicide."
Just thought I would post this because it caught my eye. Don't know how to feel about it.![]()

Heh. I've always threatened the hubby... "Don't you give me a hard time, I'll make you into a prop! It'll take weeks for them to catch on."

OMG! I heard about this on Coast to Coast AM last night. I couldn't believe it.
"Be the kind of woman that when your feet hit the floor each morning the devil says,"Oh Crap, She's up!"

There was a similar incident I believe last year where someone had committed suicide by hanging and the body was thought to be part of a Halloween display. Really sad that we have become so desensitized to this stuff that we assume there's nothing wrong with it. Not to get preachy but that's a reason I don't do any hanging body props.

I seem to remember that story as well. Don't remember the when and where.
It is sad that some people have become so isolated within their own neighborhood that they don't realize a fellow human has passed on. But, I have to be honest, if there was a corpse in my front yard this time of year, I doubt anyone would call it in!!

That would be one heck of a lifelike prop there. Problem if it was in my yard, it would blend right in with all my other stuff. The neighbors would say. wow i really like that prop and the response would be...Er that one isnt mine. Just dont understand why people take the suicide route, there is so much to live for.
That is a very sad story.EVERY DAY TO ME IS HALLOWEEN!

So sad. I'm all for a good scare and some creepy stuff is okay, but "creepy" to me is like witches, ghosts, vampires, goblins...you know, the basic weird stuff that's generally not considered real, but the spirit of Halloween makes it more real.
I've always found body props very disturbing. I went to a Haunted Barn yesturday and it was pretty good except for when you first walk in there was an infant hanging from a noose with it's hands tied. It just didn't sit right with me.
I agree with jdubbya in that it's kind of sad that some have become desensitized to this sort of stuff. I know I haven't because it bothers me. I know the thought of death surrounds Halloween given it's roots, but this story is just an example of how far the holiday has gone with regards to mocking death.
I realise everyone has different tastes and that some aspects of holidays mean certain things to people. And I love Halloween...
But give me fun, not death. This story is an example why."And the raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door..."
