I was pretty excited to see a neighbor go all out putting up a "stone" wall and decorations earlier last week, but it rained hard all last night and today and when I went by there on my way home from work it was all utterly destroyed Not sure if they were aware it was going to rain this badly but it was just as gruesome to see the walls all crumpled into a big wet mess of cardboard knowing what it looked like and how it is now is just so sad! Ive seen them put alot of effort into it to be gone overnight. what a shame!

Aww, that is sad. Probably about as sad as seeing me failing to keep my sidewalk scary arches up on Halloween '07 with 45 MPH winds (still brings a tear to my eye). It's a rite of passage, I guess.

I agree, the test of a true haunter is how (if) they recover from "incidents"..weather or otherwise. I know many a Southern California October that has reduced haunt careers to a single year. I would let them know you had seen it and appreciated it if you have not already.. maybe it will give them a little motivation to keep on with it.

I think I'd go over and introduce them to the wonders of foam board! Much more sturdy and weather resistant than card board. I can't imagine building a wall of card board and expecting it to stand up to October rain and wind.
Maybe you can help them recover. I'm sure they're frustrated.

If nothing else I'm sure the neighbor would love to know someone understood.

maybe if you had the time you could go over and help them pick up the mess. that is so sad. i hope it didn't halt their efforts. maybe just a different route. i like the suggestion above about telling them about styafoam.

That is so very sad. I feel for them for all the work they put into it only to have Mother Nature wash it away. I agree as was mentioned above to introduce yourself to them and let them know you appreciated their efforts. Maybe you could even get them to check out this forum for tips.

I made some foam boarded up window panels one year. I was so proud of them. Right after I hung them up a gust of wind blew them off and damaged them. So I repaired them and rehung and the same darn thing happened. This year I've got some questionable pieces that I may be crying over soon!

Yeah..I would feel bad as well. I hate to see a fellow haunters stuff get wrecked. But a good prop builder knows their builds will be exposed to the elements and will build em to last. I agree, tell him/her to try building from extruded polystyrene and drylok it.
