Over the past few years I have noticed a huge decrease in trick or treaters in my nieghborhood. It has me a little conserned since 6 or 7 years ago the side walks would be crowded, kids would be out at 3 o'clock when the elementry school let out and we would go through 2 or 3 bowls of candy. Now it seems we go through 1/2 maybe 1 bowl. Homes arent decorated as much anymore either.

I decided I have to step up my game and really go all out every year and do bigger every year now to keep the spirit alive. There are several home in the area that go all out and people will actually drive to these home to see them and get candy. I have to have one of these homes!

Anyone else notice a decrease in trick or treaters?

It's hard for me to tell. We live on a corner lot, on a very busy street, so there is lots of traffic during the day. I think a lot of people who drive by during the day, come back at night to see the haunt under "Show conditions". Last year, on Halloween night alone, we put over 300 people through our garage haunt (and ran out of candy!).

The neighborhood I live in had decreased lots of the kids have grown up and moved away. We did get a couple of new families in but dont know if they kids of trick or treat age. I think most of the decrease is usually around here tricking and da treating is on Football Sunday, and starts real early 4pm and last till 7pm. I also noticed that the traffic has gotten less since the city started a halloween party. Another factor is lots of todays newer parents / kids get grossed out fast with decorations. Luckily the one that return to the house every year are like wow look he added something new. And this year is no different.

I've noticed that Halloweens during the week tend to get more TOTs in my area.

Halloween fell on a Friday last year, and football is HUGE here. So we lost a ton of TOTs to that, and most likely some of the parties that fell on that day too.

I fully expect this Halloween to be low on TOTs compared to the weekday Halloweens of years past. Saturday Halloween means most non-Halloween fanatics will be throwing a party or attending a party on that night, reducing the amount of TOTs on the street. (kids parties and church Trunk or Treats will be competing with regular TOTs - and most likely the one that requires the effort will come in last )

The damn trunk or treat trend has a lot to do with the decline.
Eventhough I am Dead it is always warm inside my bed.

Trunk or treat is what hurts my area. We use to get around 300 to 400 kids now we might get 60 kids. I know alot of the family's go to the big spook alley in our area.

I couldn't agree more and I have already seen signs of this being true, we got near 300 last year and it was on a thurs. this year on a Sat. I think we will lose half or more.I've already loss a family of actors who have been with us for 4 years to a dress-up party this year.......dang I was bummed, so I'm recruiting more since we have expanded the backyard trail.Even tho I'm listed in the paper and putting out flyers and we have grown bigger and better than ever I just think there will be way too much party competition to expect great #'s. As cool as a Sat. Halloween sounds a weekday Halloween is much better with #'s. My one good hope is my neighbor down the street is throwing a kids party from 2-5 and I'm hoping they will at least stayin the community for me 6-10. Yup my expectations are lower this year.

We've seen a steady increase in the number of vistors to our haunt, with last year being just over 600. I'm fully expecting this year to be higher if the weather is nice, but again, if there are a lot of Halloween parties, we may stay the same. We are one of the "must see" houses in our area, as I'm sure many of you are. People drive distances to tot at our house, and they tell us this. Only a few other houses on our street (in our neighborhood) decorate at all but we've become known as the Halloween House and each year word of mouth along with repeat business keeps our numbers up.
