I was at an estate sale a couple weeks ago and bought these three items, this is a mid 1800s coffin pic 1, http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...s/DSCN2631.jpg pic 2 http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...s/DSCN2625.jpg this is a pic of a woman that lived at the estate in that period, http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...s/DSCN2633.jpg this is a pic of her husband, http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/l...s/DSCN2634.jpg the way the story was told to us was like this, the coffin was made for the woman in the pic but was never used,it stayed in the basement of the mansion all this time, the woman was very short ,the coffin is only 5 1/2 inches tall, I could not help myself I had to have them..............

That is definately a late 1800s coffin. I would say it was made for a child, tho, but the story you got sounds reasonable (the woman pre-ordering it and being short).

This is from the national funeral museum in Houston. It was labeled "infant coffin 1900" and roughly 4 feet tall. The windows were typical for the middle/upper class of that time period.

Awesome find! LOVE the portrait too... totally jealous as well!

That's a pretty cool coffin. I guess that woman was small if the coffin is only 51/2 inches tall.lol
