I wonder how other people deal with this.

I have been living here (moved from the east coast) since 2005. We sort of have fall, but the leaves don't really all change until December (they start sporadically in October) and it's not that many of them...deciduous trees are deliberately planted around here specifically for the variety; they're not the majority. So even at Christmas there is still a lot of green everywhere.

It also is very, very, very hot until probably at least mid-October, at which time it drops "down" to the high 70s. (!!!)

I'm sad to discover that this year, I'm not as "into" putting up my autumnal decorations. It doesn't feel like fall and my decorations look so out of place. The first year I was here I went crazy--silk autumn leaves everywhere, wheat stalks, the whole nine. Nobody else followed my lead and if anything, I think my neighbors just hated me for not "loving" how things really are here and trying to change everything.

I am sad, sad, sad that I don't have that fall "feeling". I will feel like a moron putting up leaves and pumpkins and marigolds in September. I was going to do autumn stuff this month and Halloween stuff (specifically) next month but now I feel like, Why bother?

Does anyone else feel this way? I have always loved this holiday AND time of year so much and I don't want to lose it. I am very, very sad right now.

Yes. Weather is the top reason my wife and I are planning a move soon. Too hot. Too humid. I want my son to experience fall and winter. I know exactly how you feel. (as I've said probably 10 times on this forum )

I live in Fort Lauderdale, FL and was born and raised here. I'm now in my forties, so I really never knew Fall. I still hope one day to travel to New England, and get to experience it.

    you know CM,
I was born and raised in South Florida so I understand, perfectly. I also spent 10yrs in Raleigh (I loved NC!!!) before moving back here.

There are years i am outside putting up halloween decorations using every 4 letter word you can think of because I have sweat in my eyes, LOL!

I think everyone goes thru a "BLAH" period...I did for a couple of years especially after "Party giving" burn out..

Then I had something hit me... I LOVE this holiday. It is one of the things that TRULY makes me HAPPY... So I crank the he-- out of my AC and deal with the heat. I ignore it as much as possible... I put my outside stuff up either early in the morning or after the sun is gone.

The weather (nor my blah no halloween decorating neighbors) are going to take a holiday from me I LOVE... I will continue to decorate as much as I want to..After all I do it for the kids, and I am a LARGE child.

I hope your "Spirit" picks up. Not much you can do about the weather, but you can do for you

I have spent more years sweating thru Halloween then I have in cool "Fall" like and cold, temps hehehe- but it's WHAT I make of it I guess...

I'm from West Texas and as we say here we have four seasons also. Winter, Almost Summer, Summer and Still summer. I Sept the temp starts to drop but we still have green leaves into October sometimes unless we get a hard cold front off the Rockies. Luckily though it still starts to feel like autumn the leaves may not change but the air gets crisper and the days start to get shorter. It seldom feels like a true fall but also are in an area of extremes 110 in the summer itsn't uncommon and low 20's in the winter is just as likely.

I just go with and still put out the autumn decorations. And every year I celebrate Halloween and have a good time doing it it may not be the picturesque autumn but it's what we have here.

here in Cali, where I have lived my entire life, we have a different kind of weather for sure. Summer lasts until September here, and Fall is really October-December, with January and Feb being our "winter" months. If you look at the history of weather in this region, it varies from about 56 in the winter to 86 in the summer (although today it's 104!!)... Not really a lot of variation as far as weather goes. It's cool, and hot. That's it. We don't have cold weather... Not really anyways.

With that said, I absolutely LOVE that our weather stays the same all year round. I don't have to shovel snow, or worry that my windshields will be completely iced over every morning, or worry about damage caused by the 'weather'. If I am REALLY jonsing for some winter weather, I can always take a drive up to the local mountains for the day, and get my fill of it. I live in San Diego, and fortunately its about a 90 minute drive to the mountains to experience weather... and what's better, is later in the day I can still hit the beach for some sunshine and surf (if the water is still warm enough).

You can't let other people dictate how you celebrate any holiday or season. If you want to put stuff out in September, then by all means please do so. I personally don't put out anything until October 1st, but that is just me. I then usually leave up all the "fall" decor left from halloween until Thanksgiving, when it gets switched to Christmas stuff. I don't know, but for me, I like to keep the crazy decor going for a full 3 months, and not have a break in there anywhere. =) just my opinion though. take it with a grain of salt.
How many days do I have left?

I am from Kentucky, where they have 4 seasons.

I live in Houston, TX which is, I believe, one of the most horrible places to live for weather.

Hot, humidity you could practically see and maybe 2 weeks of "winter" where the locals pull out the parkas and ski masks since it dipped into the 50s.

I HATE HATE HATE the fact that there is no fall or winter. I miss it so very much. It took me several years to get over the absence of fall foliage, that autumn "snap" and smell that cold weather gets.

You do adjust eventually. If you plan on staying there long-term, the other seasonal cues start working for you - decorating will start seeming "right" when it's that time of year.

(I would love to move further north in any direction - maybe in a few years. )
