Is it just me, or does anyone else think their selection this year is really poor? I think they've pretty much put out what they're going to get, but it's mostly last year's left overs, and all that bling crap. Even the resin tombstones are cheesy. I'm not seeing anything that looks even marginally appealing. Hoping the other retailers have a better selection.

I have a feeling that alot of stores, not only Michael's, will carry less merchandise because of expected down sales due to the economy.

I have yet to see what they've got in this year, but I had noticed about two years ago that the quality of their products has changed quite a bit; that includes The Lemax Spookytown collection. I'm not a collector, I only purchased one Spookytown item a long while back, but a friend bought one of the newer ones and the differences were awfully noticeable...

I bought two of their grabbing skeletons, a couple boxes of orange LEDs and two of their large styrofoam heads....mostly to use up coupons I had.
I went back last night with 50% off coupon and couldn't find a thing I wanted to buy. I don't decorate inside, so that eliminates most of their stuff. The tombstones are too small. I'd thought the witch at half off would be a good deal, but I don't use witches in my haunt.

While I find their selection to be less than exciting this year, I was not surprised. I think we will see less and less holiday merchandise as long as the economy continues in the current state. People are just not buying non-esentials and stores don't want to be stuck clearancing a large amount of their merchandise.
I must say though, about Michael's, I think they are some of the biggest price-gougers on the planet! A 50% off coupon only brings their price down to "fairly reasonable" so I laugh at their 20% off 'sales".
The store I am most disappointed in is Garden Ridge. No more Lemax and no more life size Gemmys. I now have no reason to shop there at all.Dear Sweet Leota, Beloved By All. In Regions Beyond Now But Having a Ball...

Well, the Michael's in my area has almost 2 full isles of Halloween, and have some nice stuff. For the bigger full sized props, Spirit, Party City, and I Party are the options near me.

So I finally got out there today and I have to say that yes it is awfully disappointing merch this year. I didn't like the idea of the bling, a lot of the decor looks tacky and poorly made. I'm pretty bummed out with it all; the only thing I would maybe purchase is a skeleton bust, or maybe the the tarantula lights...but probably not for the prices they had them at.

I have to agree with you judubbya...I'm a bit dissapointed myself. But I also agree with the other members who said that due to the economy, selection might be a little sparse this year. I guess that means that we have to be more creative, huh?
