Thread: Mourner for Cemetery Scene?

Hey, everybody. Someone here (I'm so sorry--I can't remember who and I just lost the page I was on!!) had mentioned in a cemetery thread, using a "mourner" (along with a motion-activated recording of a woman crying).

Can anyone point me in any direction of how to do this? I'm not incredibly handy and don't have a lot of tools...but I'd love any ideas at all.

I just think some sort of kneeling form with filmy clothing would be a great addition to my cemetery this year.

I know that a witch from canada has a mourning widow....not sure if its sound activitated or not.
You might look at her albums.
I"m sure there are more members with one but that's the only one I can think of off the top of my head.

I think I might have been that poster CaliforniaMelanie, responded to a post in the Prop Section about how to decorate a dead tree recently and one in General Halloween about cemetary "filler" and brought up something like that.

Last year I remember reading in the prop section about using a motion sensor for outdoor lighting (bought mine from Wal-mart for I think around $10) along with some other supplies and hooking it up to an inexpensive mp3 player and speaker system (bought both from Big Lots--mp3 maybe around $15 and amplified speakers for under $10 I think). You add your soundtrack, in this case of a weeping mourner, to the mp3 player on a repeat setting or one really long repeating track and basically when the motion sensor is triggered, the speakers come on and you hear the weeping. Wish I could tell you that I completed my project but I didn't get this built in time for halloween last year, but I seem to remember that others did. We're going through a remodel at home right now and haven't gotten to this project yet, but I'd like to complete it finally and use it in few places for my haunt this year. I'd suggest trying a search in the prop area for +mp3 +"motion sensor" . I know that a number of people here have successully built things like this with not a lot of effort or expertise.

BTW you can always go the route of skipping the motion detector and just having an mp3 player and amplified speaker system produce the weeping sounds. Keep it on the low side and when the ToTers come closer to the prop they will hear the weeping. Again I'd suggest a place like Big Lots for inexpensive equipment.

If you really want to go clean and simple, consider picking up a small CD boombox (just make sure it has a repeat function for the CD player) . I used Audicy to make my own ambient noise track for my graveyard and then just looped it. Makes it so much easier to set up. Worked like a charm. You could probably even hide it under your mourner ? Just a thought .......

I love this site. I get chills everytime I watch the video (from the "coolness" factor, not fear). This is quite along the idea of what I want my haunt to evolve to eventually!

Mr. Grimsley, thanks for introducing me to the Hallowed Haunting Grounds. Boy those guys did a really nice job. I'm thankful they still keep the site up dispite retiring it. While it has lots of great ideas and props, I love the look of the arches leading down the driveway to the main graveyard/church ruins site. That must have been a real treat for ToTers to walk down at night.

I know...shame they stopped operating it but it had been around sonce the 80's from what I understand! Just a classic and original haunt! Anyway, I always use it for inspiration.
