Don't worry about it. I have also got the same type of vibes from people, It used to bug me but not anymore. You only get one chance to live your life, why not do the things that make you happy? Someday down the road I don't want to look back on life and wish I had done this or that, live your life to the fullest and I would say for the majority of the people in this forum, that would somewhat involve Halloween!
As for the ones here with children, go all out for Halloween, create memories! Some of my best childhood memories are about Halloween.
Don't let what sombody thinks deny you of happiness, remember you can't make everyone happy no matter what you do. Your first priority is to make your family and yourself happy.
It took me a while to all of realize this, but thankfully now I do.

Thanks for all your support guys! It means a lot!
yeah, you know, screw 'em! I'll just not be interested in anything THEY have to say
At least we have such a great place like this to talk about our favourite time of year with like-minded people, and share our anger at those silly people who DONT get it.

If they've ever enjoyed the London Dungeon or the Tower of London -- they're just hypocrites! Have they ever enjoyed a ghost story, or a horror film? Have they ever bent an ear to tale of Jack the Ripper? For that matter, have they ever cracked open a Harry Potter, or seen one of the films? Again, if the answer is yes, they're just hypocrites!
And if they argue that it's an issue of degrees, ask them what kind of stuff they have at home! Have they painted a room in their house red and white for Manchester United? Do they decorate their kitchen with a Guinness tea towel or mirror? Do they spend hours talking about their garden?
Hypocrites! I'm not scolding them, just hoping they can realize everyone has unique interests that bring them fun and joy.
(I loved the London Dungeon, BTW)

Very well put!

freudstein - It does suck when people ridicule us for what we are passionate about, but don't let them get you down. Some people go through life without acting on their passions because they are afraid of what people will think of them, but here we all are, together, enjoying something that makes us all blissfully happy. At least we're doing something that we're passionate about. Isn't that what life's all about?
Keep doing what you do and don't let anyone make you feel bad for it.

Invite them over, then scare the crap out of them! That's my vote.

Looks like we've all shared a bit of this treatment.
I finally decided to get a halloween tattoo last week and whilst my friend and family think it's awesome and understand my obsession i have had a few people look at me in 'that way' and ask what the hell was i thinking.
Ah well.

Key the word 'Halloween' into the paint of their cars... that would teach them not to open their &*^%* mouths.
If it Bleeds, IT MUST BE CUT!

Wow...I've never had anyone give me grief...my neighbors and coworkers think it's cool that I go all out. They razz me once in a while, but never mean spirited...
I've had folks at the big box stores ask me what I'm making, and they always say how cool that is...of course, that could be cuz I'm keeping them employed.
BTW: Take some pics to work and show everyone the cool stuff you do...

I used to get similar taunts from coworkers, so I decided to invite them over to see me setting up the display. I always take Halloween (and the day before) off from work to set up the the props for the Big Night. When they saw just how much work went into the display (mache corpses, animatronics, lighting and sound effects - you all know what I mean), they understood. Now each year they look forward to coming over to see what's new.
I used to think that the only reason I did this was to make nice Halloween memories for the kids, much like I have of Halloweens past. As I waded in deeper, I learned that its a creative outlet for me, as well. I enjoy making the props, playing with lighting techniques and sounds etc.
It does help if one has the right inclinations. If I could, I'd be living in an old Gothic-style house with strange lights in the tower windows at night and odd sounds coming from unused rooms. I just love a creepy atmosphere, all the time. It bothers my family sometimes, but I can't help it.I...have many names...
