I feel your pain. Running a Halloween retail business, I get it all the time... you make a living off of that? People actually buy that stuff all year? You're right, they just don't get it.
But the best was earlier this weekend when asked what I plan on doing for my birthday Friday - I'm going to Lizzie Borden's house! I can't wait!!!

Don't let 'em get to you. As the other members have said, everyone has a hobby and ours is Halloween. I don't give my friends any grief for liking scapbooking, golf, basketball, collecting antiques, photography or whatever it is that they are into. Those people who know me (translate that to those whose opinions matter to me) know that my interest in Halloween has nothing to do with voodoo or satanism or any of the occult things that some people think that we are into, and everything to do with wonder and magic and fun and little chills down your spine in the dark, and the smell of crisp fall air and the autumn leaves as you walk through them, and candlelight and moonlight and the shining toothy grin of a Jack-o-Lantern siitng on a front porch.
I know people who think I'm a weirdo because I like Harry Potter and drive a car that has OCT 31 on the lisence plate. But they don't know me, and I guess I'm old enough not to care what the population at large thinks of me as long as my friends and family know I have a good heart. But even though my family and close friends accept me as I am, there is nothing like the understanding and acceptance of the good people of this forum, and being able to be so excited about costumes and props and decor and have these folks read your posts and get just as excited as you are.
SO...don't worry about the co-workers. Do what makes you happy. You can always come here for some love and understanding!!

I am totally proud of you and glad to have you among us. Dont EVER worry about what other people think EVER. If people cant except you for the way you are then you dont need them anyways. I feel this way in every aspect of my life not just halloween.Everyone has different hobbies and interests and thank god that we all we do. Could you imagine how boring this world would be if every person liked the exact same stuff. Wear your freakdom and halloween obsession proudly. I personally think i am one of the coolest persons i have ever met because of my love for halloween and horror and the lengths that i will go to for it. Freud i salute you my friend.
EVERY DAY TO ME IS HALLOWEEN!

I think it is the same reaction with MOST obsessions. Unless the person(s) you're talking to are into as well they just don't get it. Strew 'em I say.

I have gotten similar reactions from people, both at work, and some family, I can't add anything to what others have said , there is nothing freakish about you, try not to let it bother you, I am actually proud of my "uniqueness" , so I say to heck with those who don't get it!

hey don't feel bad. i had this girl i was getting to know and she was basically making fun of me because i like vampires and she started asking me if i drink blood and if i only go out at night. and then started pointing out my jewelry which mind you was only PLAIN silver bands and asked me if that's what vampires wear. she was very stupid. hung out with her one more time and called her out on it. but anyways.. people are stupid sometimes when they just don't understand or are just plain ignorant.

You're just our kind of freak, freudstein.
Seriously though...don't let it get to you. Some minds seem to have difficulty accepting and/or tolerating that which is outside their normal comfort zones and interests.
Seems to be an all-too-common deficiency, even for the "normal", "intelligent" folks.
(then again, I sometimes wonder if "normal" and "intelligent" can coexist in one mind...I've known way too many "normal" idiots, and more than my fair share of oddball geniuses)
Just enjoy yourself, and know you're not alone.Hell is an eternity of getting up at 4am to nothing but decaf coffee...
2009 photos and 2008 photos ...uhmmm...and what I have evolving...

Yep, like everyone else said, don't let it get to you. I've finally decided after 39 years, not to let anyone (and I mean ANYONE) dictate how I feel or what kind of day I'm going to have, or my mood. I say to each their own, live and let live. I'm just so glad that we all have this forum where we can be ourselves
