They illustrate very well how Halloween was celebrated before the advent of high tech props and costumes.

Fantastic pics, faceless. I can remember the costumes in the early '60's with the plastic mask and one-piece suit with a picture of what you were supposed to be on the top half. ICK, I wanted to make my own as soon as I was able.

My birthday is in October and I always insisted on a Halloween themed B-Day party. We would bob for apples either like that pic with the string or else in a big tub of water. Man, people would FREAK OUT nowadays if all their kids were all sticking their face in the same tub trying to bite apples! They'd say "Eeeewww, how unsanitary!" I don't think any of us died.......LOL!
