I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of what type of insurance they carry for their haunts. I would like to have a small haunt in a barn/outdoor setting in the outskirts of Houston, Texas. I own the land the haunt would be on. I don't know if I should try and attempt the haunt on my own property or would I be better off renting an unused vacant building for just 2 months? Any help would be appreciated.

    This question pops up frequently.

And, the answer is varied by local laws and statutes.

Typically, however, if you are NOT CHARGING/TAKING DONATIONS for admission, and the haunt is on your property, your home owners insurance will cover you. Please check with your agent for the particulars.

If you are taking money, you will need to get some special insurance for the haunt. Many states allow event insurance for such things, but you'll need business licenses and other things, and you should check with your local authorities for the details.
