Thread: Trick Or Treat or Haunt the Door?

I am torn between handing out candy to TOT's and seeing their reaction to our decorations, OR taking my daughter TOTing and seeing other houses in the neighborhood (I still enjoy TOTing!)

I never had to worry before because we lived in apt buildings up until this year (no TOTs). Since my daughter is young I will probably leave the hubby to answer the door while she and I lurk the streets, then enjoy our own haunt for the later TOTs. However he is not into Halloween and likely to ignore the TOTs at the door alltogether

We take our daughter TOTing and then come back home and do our party later that evening. It helps that we don't have any TOTers coming to our house.

My suggestion (which is what I would do) is to take your daughter TOTing in one direction for a while, then make your way back home and let your hubby take her in the other direction. That way you get to enjoy some of both. Hopefully your hubby won't ignore TOTers because if your house is decked out, they will expect you to be giving out candy. Unhappy older TOTers may take it out on your decor if you don't answer the door at all. That's not likely, but still possible.

Have your hubby take the daughter ToTing...and you can enjoy that ToTs that come to your door and compliment you.

You have a great opportunity this year since Halloween is actually on a Saturday night. Definitely take your daughter trick-or-treating, she deserves those fun memories. You can host a Halloween party on Friday evening, or even on Saturday during the day.

With any luck, there will be enough time for everyone to have a lot of fun and see a lot of houses.

For the years that my two boys went trick or treating me and my wife went with them and took turns. I am also huge on staying home with my yard haunt, but it was almost like living my childhood over as well going out with my boys. The years go by so fast you have to enjoy it all every second that you have.

If you have any family near by (or trusted friends), maybe they can come by to help your husband hand out candy while you take your daughter trick or treating.

When I was young my mom took us out for about an hour and then my older cousins took us out again. This let them go when they thought they were to old to trick or treat and allowed my mom to pass out candy the rest of the evening.

Didn't someone mention daylight savings time was happening on Halloween? If that's true you will have an extra hour If not I like the suggestion made by Zombieman, so you can enjoy both parts.

I run into the same problem with my son so the wife takes the son out and I stay home to Trick or Treat. We use to throw a big party every year but it bothered me that by having it that night 20 houses would now have the lights out on the 31st. So now the party is 2 or 3 days before.

I put my vote in for letting your kids go TOT by themselves. It will be a good character building experience. In all seriousness though, maybe you will have to take them out earlier to a mall TOT thing so that you can be home for all the TOT's in the evening.
