Since we are all Halloween family, I wanted to share with you a letter that recently appeared in our local town newspaper on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008 that has created a bit of a fuss.
Just wanted to know how you felt about it and if a rebuttal should be written by somebody.
It appeared in the New Castle News in New Castle, PA USA on 11/4/2008.
Let me know what you think. It was most likely a slam on our Halloween display & everybody else's in town.

LETTER: Halloween observance condemned
-BEGINNING-
New Castle News

- Editor, The News:
Why do people like to celebrate death, dying, torment and fear?
More than half of our population is in counseling or on drugs, just trying
to overcome these things, and once a year, we celebrate them.
We should be celebrating life, joy and liberty.
Halloween is a tradition started by a satanic cult. They dressed up to
conceal their identities like a bank robber wears a ski mask.
Then they would go house to house demanding the contents, or they would cast
an evil spell on the homeowners. Why do we celebrate this horrible event. It's
like having a Ted Bundy day.
Christians who knows this and still participate should wake up. How do we
think we will ever be able to defend the gospel should our lives ever be at
risk, when we can't even give up candy to defend the gospel now.
I've seen all kinds of gross-looking decorations like grim reapers hanging
from nooses and yards filled with tombstones, etc.
Halloween is a pagan holiday that should not be celebrated as if it's a good
thing. It's not.
If we don't think that this celebration is anti-Jesus, then we don't want to
face the truth.
The Rev. Linda Martinez

I am so embarrassed for Linda Martinez (the author). Sadly, she comes off as totally ignorant and just one completely miserable individual.

The reverand is a fool, doesn't know history, for starters. I probably would write back if I lived there, (unfortunately there are always sheep that follow fools like this), I personally don't suffer fools well. Like succub'oz has said on other threads concerning other folks behavior, I would love to slap the s##t outta some one like this!

It's yet another sign of ignorance. People condemning what they don't understand simply because they don't understand. I've seen it so many times, but then I live smack dead in the middle of the bible belt where ignorance is king. I go to a Christian university where most have never even read their bible if they can't read and understand the cornerstone of they're beliefs how can they be expected to understand another cultures traditions, even when almost all of the original meanings are forgotten by the majority. Sadly I have found actually trying to talk to most people like this is paramount to slamming your head into a wall, repeatedly. Simply put until they care and want to understand they never will.
Those that condemn what they don't understand demonstrate their ignorance. Those who don't try to understand demonstrate their intolerance."Scarcity + Misinformation + Imagination = What the hell is it?

I agree this Rev. sounds very ignorant (get your facts straight) and also she sounds like a very miserable and probably judgemental person.
