I may have missed one in there, so here's a link to the FDA recall site:
FDA Recalls, Market Withdrawals and Safety Alerts
Honestly folks, there's many, many more recalls and alerts regarding undisclosed allergens than there are about any chemical contamination.
Chances are very high that the candy our children (and ourselves) will be enjoying Halloween and the days following will be quite safe for consumption.
Additionally, the infants that have become ill (some of which have indeed died) in China have been sickened due to prolonged exposure to melamine, in large quantities (anyone who's had an infant on formula knows just how much they consume).
Chances of consuming that level of melamine for an adult, or even a child, through candy is pretty low...I'd worry about diabetes first, if you're eating that much candy!!!Last edited by Ugly Joe; 10-23-2008 at 08:17 AM.

Joe, thanks for the list.
But it's better to be safe than sick.

Melamine actually causes the same effects as cynide to the body. That stuff is nothing to play with.
Things are never as they seem...

In general, I trust the FDA more about food safety than some video on YouTube.

I absolutely agree RJ - and I want to thank you for bringing this to light, as most people probably never knew about it!
Flip side of the coin: things like this can too easily start a panic...I'm just trying to let folks know not to toss out all their kids candy over this, until they check first.
...and Cadaverino, yes, I might trust the FDA a touch more than that video, but only a little.
After all, it is still a government agency **shudder**Hell is an eternity of getting up at 4am to nothing but decaf coffee...

Thanks very much Joe. I had no idea! Since I control the email list for the entire neighborhood, I'm sending this out through a group email alert and putting it on our neighborhood website!
