So my work is having a pumpkin carving contest...and I believe they are supplying the pumpkins as well!

I work at a large casino and resort and was thinking of going with a casino theme or is that too obvious?

Any ideas or links to sites with pumpkin patterns would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

I have always thought the vomiting pumpkin was very clever and hilarious. I guess the first question is - do you want to be funny or serious?

One year, when I was working for a cell phone company, I carved the pumpkin so he was driving a car while talking on his cell phone and had crashed into a tree - and we won first place. Are you able to use other props?

I don't think the casino theme is too much, so long as your final result is original and stands out. What are the rules for the contest?

Will you be allowed to include anything other than just a pumpkin? I've seen a very clever display where a small headless torso and arms held a jack-o-lantern. That would give you a little extra room to play with the clothing. Maybe a blackjack dealer (boy's white shirt & black vest) and bony hands holding cards? The October issue of Hallmark magazine showcased this type of set-up.

There are some great pumpkin carving websites. They offer several free patterns, plus their membership is usually less than $10. There are also several pattern programs you can download.

I did a Queen of Hearts card pumpkin years ago. It was very pretty. You can make anything a pattern by reserving the shading, if you have Printshop or photoshop.
