Things like this make me lose faith in humanity. I try to believe that people are inherently good, but there are constant reminders to the contrary. Some people just suck.
The decorations for my house are almost exclusively done for my annual party, but this year I was going to build a cemetery for my front yard; however, my fear of losing some of my favorite props to theft has made me decide to postpone this plan to next year and I live in a nice area. I had a minor theft issue last year.
Oh, and as for the question about what someone would do with stolen Halloween props, the video said they didn't really steal static props. They stole computers, projectors, and other electronic items.

This is definitely hard to take. Hopefully they're not terribly smart and between the clues and the types of items they stole, they'll get caught. The problem is we really count on the goodness and relationship with the community that they will respect and enjoy what we do. But, it only takes a couple of "bad seeds" to ruin it. I've been very lucky so far that I've never had anything stolen. I know that one year, that streak may be over, but I sincerely hope not. My boss had two buckies stolen last year and the cops were really no help at all (there's not much they could do anyways). This year he installed motion detector lights, but I'm not sure how much of a deterrent that is. I think you just have to be vigilant and hope for the best. 99% of the people that visit our haunts/yard haunts, etc. are good and there to enjoy the show. I'd like to continue to entertain them and hope to convert the other 1%.
Jerry here
Just a quick update on the loss:
We have volunteers now to watch each night. Before the loss nobody would do it. We don't have funds for hiring a guard.
There have been some nice cash donations from the local City Council, a few from individuals and some great equipment donations from Best Buy.
KCRA Channel 3 has been instrumental in getting us attention, as has the local Grapevine newspaper. We're still looking for donations. We especially need a replacement air compressor. I've been searching craigslist but haven't found any deals.
We are going to open. A few rooms may not be done due to the time it has taken to rebuild what we had but the show will be a heart stopper. We'll even have a "live" show on stage that includes a 15 minute routine by 4 SkullTroniX skulls and other skits by the kids.
Our dates of operation will be Oct 24, 25, 31 and Nov 1. Free admission on Oct 23, our dress rehearsal night, if you come in pirate garb.
We are also still looking for volunteers and students.
Thanks to all of you for your support.
And the culprits are still at large. We're pretty certain we know one of the people involved but there isn't enough proof yet to make an arrest.
Best regards

Jerry, I'm glad to hear that folks have come together to help you guys out and you'll still be able to open. Here's hoping the people that did this are caught. Hopefully they'll be stupid and post stuff for sale that will be recognized.
Hi, Everyone, absolutely not trying to step on any other charity threads going on here, but just talked to Jerry, and I inquired about the air compressor (see above).
He still needs one, preferably a big one (20 gal or more), but it sounds like a smaller one would also work in a pinch...
Anyone know of a hardware store that might donate one? Or any other ideas? I'm ready right now to Paypal him (Jewell Performing arts center is really who gets it, obviously) if others can also help?
