We have done as many as 12 including some detailed work on a couple weighing in excess of 40 lbs. This year 6-10.

None.

They just shrivel & rot in a few days.
It's a messy job and time consuming too.
And they cost a bundle, just to throw away.
We now use the foam ones we get every year.
We have about 17 and bought two more this year.
And we use them year after year. No waste & cost effective.
They don't stink after a few days and they don't attract bugs.
We also have quite a collection of power strips too.

Used to do around 16-20.
Now, it's averaging 6-8. Too much to do, and that carving starts to hurt my hands after a while!
I am never switching to the fake pumpkins no matter what. It just isn't Halloween without the real pumpkin smell and real candle singing the insides. I rub a little cinnamon on the inside lids of some of the pumpkins too.... yum!I'm a Halloween Bride! 10/31/2002

A kindred spirit! I couldn't agree more. While we have three carved foam pumpkins we use for indoor decor, it just wouldn't be Halloween w/o the real thing. The flicker of a real candle, the smell of burning pulp of the lid, and letting them burn out into the wee hours. We have a custom of not blowing them out but letting them burn until they extinguish themselves. The last thing I look at before I turn in on H night is the jacks on the porch. We also keep the seeds and toast them. One of the highlights of our Halloween season is clearing the dining room table, covering it with newspaper and carving pumpkins!

This year is all about the pumpkin for me. I will have to carve at least 15. I can't wait and I dont even mind the "waste or cost". I don't ever remember bug's being a problem either. Maybe because we have a frost before then. I am getting so excited, I can't wait!!!

I usually do between 2-4 more difficult foam carvings (I can't stand to see all my hard work just rot into mush)> I do 2 real pumpkins as well, but they aren't anything fancy, jut basic triangle eyes and crooked mouth.

We do 4 every year, one for each of us. I wouldn't mind doing some fake ones so we could leave them out longer, but we'll always have real ones burning for Halloween. We also do a few turnips like they did in the old days.

We do about 5- 6. I would love to do more but we have to carve them the afternoon of the 31st, because they only last one day here.
