So my mom and I were talking this evening and she told me that on the radio today they said that they were going to take Halloween off as a holiday. There is already one state that does not celebrate Halloween. Now there is going to be a vote on which holiday should be taken off and Halloween and Valentine are the two that are in discussion. Now i said that in another post awhile ago that it looks like there trying to do away with Halloween since there has been very little merchandise and costumes being displayed at stores this year. .... Keep your ears open if you hear anything.

Halloween is a HUGE business to merchandising. There is no way all of the stores and manufacturers will let someone "vote away" Halloween... that's impossible.
Not only that, but you can't make people stop celebrating unless you make it against the law, and that would also never happen.
There has been a backlash in the last 20 years against Halloween as being an "evil" holiday, but it will weather the idiotic religious nuts just like it always has.I'm a Halloween Bride! 10/31/2002

Sounds like a typical urban legend. It grosses the most money next to xmas then any other holiday. The stores alone would freak not to mention the people.
There has been rumors of the same thing with the classic cars and not allowing them on the street if they are so old. Supposedly there is a bill waiting to be signed into law about that too. I've heard it for about 5 years now.
Do you know what state was mentioned that doesn't celebrate it? I'm kind of surprised that it would be state wide or maybe that just the capitol doesn't do anything for it.

It is a multi-BILLION dollar industry. I have heard this year after year. (urban legend)
Is the messed up economy going to affect sales? Probably. Is it going to mess up sales for every other holiday and other purchases, yes.
What you heard is not true.

How can you just make it a non-holiday all of a sudden? It can't just be a holiday one day and not be one the next, I mean it's celebrated many more places than America, right? And since it's not a paid statutory day off like Christmas or New Years, how will that take effect- making calendar companies remove it from October? Man, who thinks of these laws, as if there aren't so many more pressing issues right now?

could they be thinking it's a national holiday?
as far as i know its not, (schools don't close and other national holiday measures arent taken)
i think it should be a national holiday, considering its popularity and that its ingrained into american culture.
there is no chance that it will be taken off the calendar,
thats just too ridiculous
