I'm going for my first time in October. I'm very excited! We are going up that evening and staying over, then picking apples and pumpkins on the way back. Has anyone been? What's it like? Im 22, and am wondering if it's really scary, really kid-ish or somewhere in between. Either way, it sounds awesome!

If you're talking about Sleepy Hollow, it's not in upstate New York, it's down in Westchester County, part of the New York-Northern New Jersey-Long Island metro area. You can take the Metro North Railroad from Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan to the Philipse Manor stop.

Here's a travel article by one of my favorite writers, J.E. Barnes, in Fortean Times.

Sleepy Hollow, Westchester County, New York.

That's my favorite haunt! Didn't make it over last year but they do an amazing job and it's geared towards adults so it definitely is scary and has some funny parts. They change it around every year and they haven't failed to impress me. Make sure you do everything - all the haunted houses, the haunted cornfield (I hope you're going when the sun's completely down and it's completely dark with a bit of moonlight), and the hayride (best seats are at the very back so you're riding backwards - you'll see more action there).

    Enjoy!

PumpkinJack...I go every year. It is AWESOME, you will see nearly every high end animatronic prop that is made. The hayride itself is amazing, a REAL guy on horseback chases the wagon at one point. It's certianly geared towards older teens and adults. by that I mean, they don't try to tone down anything so little kids aren't scared. The 2 haunted houses are very cool, although the corn-maze could be scarier. it's not a maze you can just wander through, it's definitly a guided maze. I would be very surprised if you don't fall in love with the attraction as a whole, the atmosphere, actors, props etc are truly wonderful. We were supposed to go this friday, but the forecast is calling for rain, I'm crossing my fingers. Oh...be prepared to wait. Just b/c yourt icket says 9PM doesn't mean you are getting on at 9. It's worth the wait though.

Lady Althea,,,,I haven't gone back "The Forest of Fear" in Tuxedo since discovering Headless Horseman (not that FoF was bad by any means). Once you've gone to HH, others seem like "ehh". Sure it's pricier, but well worth the $$ and the drive to get there.
