I really enjoy decorations. I don't have props outside or anything, but I like seeing animatronics, hanging decorations, and so forth. I don't really care for people at Haunted houses trying to scare me. I rather enjoy looking at decorations than being scared. That's more enjoyable to me.
I'm the person that will read tombstones, wait until the animatronic does something, and basically get bored when the person tries to scare me. I might think the costume they are wearing is cool, but not into the whole scaring thing.

Agreed, guess I must be jaded, but the whole "I'm jumping out to scare you!" schtik just doesn't faze me. Not to say I don't jump when it happens, but I've worked in too many haunted houses to be truly scared.
And yes, seeing any kind of decorations, be they in a store or someone's well decorated yard, or even just a simple glowing Jack-O'-Lantern, fills me with joy.Haunt to Live ... Live to Haunt

Yeah....I'm usually too busy trying to see what props they've used and how the visual effects are acheived to care whether they try to scare me or not. Mostly, it's just annoying.

It all depends:
Jumping out and yelling: STUPID, stupid, stupid. Not scary, and gives me a headache.
Banging hammer/wood/door/whatever to make a loud noise to scare: See above.
Chainsaw: BOOOOORIIIIIIIING...sorry, they've lost something in the last 30 years or so. Been there, done that. Hear that chainsaw, it just let's you know the end is near.
Well done dot room, or one with the masks where someone silently moves: Very nice, but I've seen a dozen too many times to be scared.
Dressing the part, and subtly moving just when you're convinced it's a prop: Very nice, you might actually get me to jump, even.
Playing a role well, whatever it may be: Can't beat it.
Unfortunately, 90% of the haunted houses around here focus on the first 3.
The ones that play a role, and REALLY get into it are the ones I enjoy. More than any prop, a WELL DONE actor playing the role in a room just adds too much. One of the most memorable rooms I've ever seen was just a padded room with a patient in it. That patient did such a marvelous job of being insane, though, it stole the show from the rest of that whole haunt.

I was going to say pretty much the same, a scare can be great, if it's done well.
I like a mixture of both, like i said, done well.
Someone who just screams, yeah, gets old.

I like both, but it depends on what each is like. I've never been into gory/shock stuff. I love looking at lights and elaborate, interesting set-ups. I like a good scare but it doesn't have to be someone with a chainsaw and a severed head running at me. Sometimes more subtle things are scarier.

I really enjoy looking at displays, no matter if they are cheesy, grouse, funny, scary, etc.. A few scares is great also.
I hate most haunted houses because you have to rush through them and I never have time to look and take everything in.

About haunted houses - we went to an old prison a couple years ago and one kid jumped out, then said to one of my friends "hey is that a HIM hat! Rock on man"... ok... Another time we went to some haunted woods type of place and a guy dressed up in a Jason-eque costume stopped all the pretty girls to get hugs. It was disappointing to say the least. Now the displays are more interesting.
