Alright...I'm out in my front yard today framing in my porch for my FCG to have a place to live, and i made the mistake of buying a couple of magazines yesterday. As I was thumbing through them and dragging stuff out, I realized....I DON"T LIKE MY THEME!

I'm putting together a simple realistic cemetery...about 8 or 9 tombstones, a half of a toe pincher coffin, 2 6' tall skeletons, and a couple of miscellaneous ground breakers... columns and a fence.

I'm beginning to think I don't have enough color and originality... I'm trying to think of a way to throw a little pizazz into my theme. I'm ready to throw the whole thing up in the air and start fresh...

I don't think that just throwing a couple pumpkins in the mix will help...

Anyone else ever have a last minute change of plans for their theme?

I'm hoping once I drag everything out and start setting up, I'll have a better idea of what I want to do...

I usually end up doing that... This year, I'm still trying to decide exactly where I want to put the big props. (The outhouse has moved three times already!!)

Once you start dragging stuff out of storage, you'll find just the right stuff to scare the yell out of the TOTs!

Oh, BTW, if you want a relatively inexpensive, but VERY cool looking addition to your graveyard, go to HD or Lowes and get a bag of cement, some small buckets (HD has red buckets, perfect size and color), some PVC and black spray paint, and order up some Bucky skulls from the SkeletonStore.com. If you have a Dremel tool and some time in the evenings, you can build some really cool stanchions for the entrance. Wrap some rope or chain around the PVC and voila, a new fence!

I'll take more pics today and post later...

I had to downsize significantly this year. A lot of what we USED to have is long gone, Garage Sales and trashed at the curb. Not exactly sure what this year's yard is going to look like. But I'll bet, it's dismal.

I'm looking forward to what others are doing this year. Since my haunt has been displaced, I have to "live through other's haunts". (Which ain't so bad. People usually end up with something pretty good anyway.)

So, Goul Luck with whatever you settle upon. I'm sure it'll be great.

Check out my birthday present in the background (the cooker). We're going to cook a whole hog for the Halloween party!!

The (almost) finished product. I just need to hot glue the skull to the PVC post. Cool, huh?

Halloweenscreenqueen...I love the ideas of skulls on the posts...great idea to just poke around here or there.

I'm sure everyone has a vision of what they want, a theme, and some are good about setting that in motion. Me, I'm new to this house and yard, so I'm trying to see what works, and what doesn't. Plus the fact that we get 0 yes thats ZERO TOT'ers... I do it because I love it. I think I have a great yard and porch for Halloween, but just no kids in my neighborhood other than my 2 boys. I have to move to a more Halloween friendly neighborhood!

You know what? You may grow to love it as more and more stuff goes up. You can also just incorporate the cemetery into another theme. Cemeteries are a welcome addition to practically any Halloween theme.

I LOVE the skulls on the posts! Make some for me!!! j/k...

I always thought the classic tombstones/coffins goes a long way, a bit of the traditional stuff, you can never go wrong.

Granted i did change my entire mind about everything last year, but way too late. The week before, just ended up in a disaster because once i didn't like it i didn't want to put the effort in.

But like others have said, once you get your stuff out, things will start turning in your head and you'll either figure it all out, or decide to re-do it on the spot, but it's not too late if that's the case.

Haunt it and they will come...

Our first year, we had about 20 TOT'ers. Last year, we had over 350 in one night. If you are new to the house and neighborhood, keep up the yard haunt and word will spread, especially if you are visible to traffic. You could always do a yard haunt for charity, say a local food bank. Put up a few signs at local supermarkets, etc and you are good to go. Worst case, maybe look into helping out with a charity haunt. Some will give you your own room or scene to decorate and possess/haunt for a good cause and you can still decorate your home for Halloween.

I too am in a new house for the first time this haunting season and have decided to go with a cemetary in the front, one pnuematic pop-up half-bucky from a half coffin, and then a spider entrance to the house with cocoon victims and (hopefully) a large spider looking over from the roof.

My problem has been how to protect my gear. I used to live out of town and never had to think about fencing or intruders in my haunt. Looked at many options for fencing and settled on buying unfinished gothic picket fence panels (slightly damaged from Home Depot for about $15 each) and a couple of gothic wood posts. Wife and I painted them with Kilz tinted med gray first. We are now ready to hit it randomly with a dark gray and then mist them with water and hit it with flat and gloss black and some sponges to see what we have (a little weathering we hope). I'll post some pics in a couple of days to show you our idea. We plan on finishing the panels with some black, whispy garland and black leaves along with breaking and tilting some of the pickets.
