I don't understand the appeal, but kids seem to like the stuff and I wanted to give out candy with a nautical theme to go with my pirate display. Found some bulk gummy octopi that look appropriately disgusting.
I don't have kids and know that some parents are hyper-vigilant about germs and whatever so my question is - if I go to the trouble of parcelling the wiggly guys out into cellophane bags, will the kids be allowed to eat them or is anything not packaged at Wonka's factory automatically tossed by parents?

Kids and nautical can only mean one thing.....Sponge Bob gummies! You can get big packages individually wrapped and maybe give out the other to people you know!

I don't have kids, but I wouldn't give out candies that weren't sealed in their original package. You're just asking for them to toss them.
Unless you know all of the neighborhood kids, most parents will not allow kids to eat candy that isn't packaged.I'm a Halloween Bride! 10/31/2002

A sad thing, I agree most parents would throw them.

I agree, most parents nowadays won't allow their kids to eat 'home packaged' goods, they automatically think its no good or poisoned.. wish it was like the good ol' days

Thanks for the responses and the alternative suggestions. I kind of thought that would be the consensus. Dang, I really wanted to buy the octopus gummies since I plan to have a giant octopus attack my pirate ship. On the other hand, my significant other is truly creeped out by Sponge Bob and she's the one who handles the TOT station. Hee hee hee - do I dare take the chance that she'll walk out on the job when she picks up the first Sponge Bob? But the look on her face might be worth it.

If you had your heart set on it I would print up a little peice of paper to go with it saying:
"Hi, I'm Lacey Arsenic, over at 1234 Chlorine Ln, I packaged these candies myself as part of a pirate theme, they are 100% safe . No real octopi were hurt in the making of these candies
Happy Halloween
Lacey Arsenic
As a parent I would ask about the house and say "huh, cool....eat up buddy
