Our haunt (walkthrough) is open every Fri., Sat., and Sun. in October, and the full week of Halloween.
My wife thinks that we should be in costume for every night that we are open (we are not "actors" for the walkthrough, just the hosts.)
I disagree. If I were to dress in costume, it would be on Halloween night only, when many of the guests will also be in costume.
For those of you who have a haunt that is open more than just the Big Night, do you plan to be in costume every night you are open?
(Sorry for the typo in the thread title...I can't edit it.)

It takes us several weeks to get most of the haunt up, but I don't ever consider it "finished." Seems there is always one more thing that can be done, time allowing. People bring their kids by to see it as soon as we have the structure skinned, and frequently while we have drill motor in hand and ladder still up.
Usually the costumes we wear are the extra surprises on Halloween night. We take turns posing with our fabricated monsters and scarring TOTs. If we wore costumes each night prior to H'ween it would ruin the surprise and ruin lots of scares

Heck yes in costume! I think i'm going to be a dead duchess or something this year. If the dead duchess has to chnage lightbulbs... so be it

My main costume is a simple robe/hidden face, which I wear as the Keeper of the cemetery and all its secrets and stories.
This year I also want to spend a little time in the side yard in the ghillie suit, playing the swamp monster. I already scared the bejeezus out of another tenant in my building trying it on in front of the hallway mirror. Heh, heh....Always cut away from yourself...and toward someone else.

This isn't going well for me. So far it looks like the poll is trending towards dressing up every night.
I do like the idea of "saving the surprise" for the Big Night though.
I'll have to try and sell it that way to my wife

A simple compromise: Use two different costumes. Save the best one, and the best gags, for the big night. Anybody who hears about your haunt will be expecting the lesser you--and the greater you should be a bit of a surprise.
Always cut away from yourself...and toward someone else.
