FINALLY got internet access by piggybacking off of someone else's service... still no electricity, going on 6 days and counting (lost it about 9pm last Friday). Fortunately one of my neighbors is on a different grid and is letting us plug our fridge into their garage.
We sustained damage to our house - some minor roof damage that led to water damage inside, and lost all of our fence and our back porch is twisted up, but it's all small potatoes compared to some of the others. I live on the NW side of Houston, so I can just imagine how awful some of the damage is further south.
My mother-in-law invited herself up to our house with her insane and ill mannered great dane and caused major messes, and I believe I would rather go through another hurricane than to have to spend one more hour with her ever again.HER house had NO damage, and got power back within a day... and yet she forced herself on us in our little house and didn't even bring so much as a can of food or a bottle of water...
(we've been cut off from both of dh's parents for over 3 years, up until FIL died last year, and MIL is right back on my sh!t list after this mess)
My DH went back to work yesterday, but my work is still messed up, so it may be next week before I'm able to go back... but I believe that I'll still be receiving a paycheck in the interim.
I have spent the last few days working on cleaning up the mess and strangely, Halloween projects. I'll take a few pics eventually and post my hurricane projects hopefully next week. I hope to get power and my own internet service back in a day or two (at least that is what the city is saying... sure) and start posting again, but I can't be sure when that will be exactly.
I missed this place! Hope the other SE Texas posters made it through okay!!

Glad to hear you are ok, everyone here was wondering how all of you in South Texas were doing. I hope your electricity is returned soon. I can't even imagine what you all are going through.

Sorry about the mess. Why don't you go over to your MIL house?

It's great to hear you guys are okay! What an awesome neighbor to let you plug your fridge in at their place.

The Halloween stuff was safe and protected... I know where my priorities are!

As far as staying at MIL's house... that is a horror that no human being should be subjected to. She is without a doubt the most boring, talkative and annoying person on the planet.
Much better to have no electricity than to spend any more time with her. Even no television or A/C is better than that... truely a fate worse than death.
