I had a quick look in Goodwill this evening, and was astonished at the prices they are asking for second hand halloween goods.

Earlier in the year I bought to oil lamps for $1.99 each. they had on on the shelf today at $3.99.

Wigs that had seen better days to say the least, were priced at $3.99 each, masks from $4.99 (and a couple of those I know were from the Dollar Tree) .. they even had a kids grim reaper costume for $2.99 ... and this is also a Dollar Tree item.

The costumes leave a lot to be desired, and a basic black hooded gown they are asking $6.99 for (includes added unstitched seam, and few runs in the fabric as a bonus.)

Am I expecting too much or are these items overpriced ???

it could be a result of the economy...

some thrift stores also have different pricing through out the year.

do you have a local thrift store? Goodwill is a national store, a local place might have better stuff for less cost.
just an idea thrown out there for people to chew on....

Don't complain until you've seen the prices and offerings at dutch thrift stores.
They must think all their second hand crap is antique....and its not.
When I lived in the US, always got my best bargains at yard sales (especially street sales), rummage markets and church rummage sales.

I have to agree with you there, I have had some real bargains from yard and rummage sales.

The Dogman said it. Check local thrift stores vs. Goodwill. I do a lot of shopping at my local thrift store all year and they have great prices.

I know this won't help now and I know that every place is diffrent but for all of the Savers/Value Villiage stores, all new halloween iteams will be marked at 50% halloween day. That's whay I'm told anyway.

Value Village, the Salvation army, yard sales...everyone is selling their junk at retail prices.

I started shopping at v.v 10+ years ago when they were cheap. I used to by old leather jackets for less than $5. Now those same jackets sell for about $30. Name brand jeans sell for the same price. It's pretty crazy. Now the only time I go there is during their 50% off days and for new Halloween stuff.

I go to thrift stores a lot. In the past couple of months the prices at one local chain have increased tremendously. This chain would color code their items and on Mondays all items were half price. The rest of the week three of the four colors were half price. They have recently changed their policy and now fewer items qualify for the half price deal. They have also raised their prices quite a bit so that its only a "bargain" if you get it for half off. It always amazes me when you still see someone's garage sale tag on an item that they were trying to get $1.00 for and it ends up at the thrift shop and they want $3.99 for that item.

I still like going to the thrift stores as its a one-stop shopping experience, as opposed to driving around to many different garage sales. I still like garage sales, though. If you're looking for accessory items with some built-in creep factor, the thrift shop is a great place to go. You just can't get the same feeling with a brand new item.

Goodwill and Salvation Army our out of their minds in my area, I thought they were supposed to be helping people, I feel terrible for the people who really need to go there, I agree you need to stick to the garage sales

Hey I work for the same company but here in the US it's called Savers. Anyway, go in on mondays and a select color is only a Dollar. (thats on everything in store)

And every store has diffren't pricers so that may be the problem. :-)

    Good Luck!
