Thread: Do you have Halloween rivals? How early do your setups go up?

Around here, Christmas wars (what I can em ) are not something for the faint of heart. Now Halloween wars, thats my game. I do have a rival though. I bought a spooky moving tree, a week later he had one. I got some peanuts decorations, a week later guess what he had.

So now I try and save putting everything out until about a week before just so he can't copy! hehe

When do yours go out and do you have neighborhood rivalries?

I wish I had a rival,, just some blow up baloons & spiderbebs at best in my area..

I live in a medium sized area (as you go further down the block more and more houses show up and that's where the real competition commences between people) therefore not many people set up haunts but as the years go on I am noticing more and more people participating!

Last Halloween (my first haunt in serveral years) I noticed my neighbours competing with me as I brought out the decorations they would bring out bigger ones..then I would try to up the ante lol, in the end I "busted" out the craziest stuff I constructed and bought. From animated skelaton pirates to a crazy haunt that kids loved and some ran away from! I am hoping I inspired others to follow my lead this year and give me some competition because this year will only be bigger and better!!

I got a meathead that copies me.I always set up early but add new stuff every week.I also save a few new bigger items for halloween nite.He just walks by and shakes his head.

No one here but me. Every year I do more and every year more and more people show up to look.
I get a lot of complements, but no one has tried to compete.

oh, I try to get most of the stuff out by the first of October.

yeah i have two...there is one that lives right beside me and one that lives up the street...the one that right beside me doesnt have near as much as me but the one up the street has a projector out playing horror movies!!!

I wish I had rivals. The four houses next to me turn out their lights and don't give out candy! The guy on the other side of the corner from me started haunting a few years ago and always comes by around 5pm on Halloween to view our setup and see what's new for the year. He's building up a nice haunt and I can only hope others catch on too.
As for set up, I always wait until Halloween to set up so the Tots don't see it prior to Halloween. I can do some stuff early like my power runs for everything but all props stay in garage storage until after the kids go off to school... and I can then start to haunt the yard and power it in prior to 6pm. Most Tots don't start to trick or treat until dark here.

I have 2 rivals on my street which is always fun One of them just started last year and I have to say I was pretty impressed. He had a pretty cool blow up & he also had some props he made himself (graveyard fence, tombstones, gallows,guillotine). The other lives across from the street and usually beats me when it comes to christmas but when it comes to halloween I have it locked

My brother lives about 6 houses down, we definitely have a healthy competition going.
