I'm curious and am hoping someone can provide some sound reasoning. Why not just jump in and start posting, or asking questions? Why lurk in the darkness? Many people join saying that they've lurked on our forum for a long time and just decided to join. I just don't get why. When I found this forum, I joined after a few minutes of searching the boards. I realized it was a great source of information and ideas, and there were so many of you that are as looney about Halloween as me.

Come on you lurkers! Just do it... both feet... jump in. Like going into a cold pool, you don't dip your big toe in inching into cold water... you jump in head first... or at least I do.

"Do I really look like a guy with a plan? You know what I am? I'm a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do with one if I caught it. You know, I just do things."

    Some people are just shy

You'll notice more and more lurkers the closer it gets to Halloween. Everyone is looking for help with something specific and may not have anything to say once they find it.

What is this "shy"-ness you speak of?

Geez, if this is true, I must be the most obnoxious person on the forum.

    Lots of reasons to lurk:
    As LHallow said, shyness.
    Time constraints.
Nothing to contribute (or so they feel), or don't wish to look like an idiot on a public forum (some of us got over that, however).
Just looking for help on a particular idea.
They don't wish to be known as part of the "Halloween Community".
    They're too good for us.
They really work for the FBI, and are simply keeping an eye on the rest of us.
    They're zombies.

Oh, and many, many more, I'm certain....
Hell is an eternity of getting up at 4am to nothing but decaf coffee...

2009 photos and 2008 photos ...uhmmm...and what I have evolving...

I am a new member. I did lurk a little in the beginning. I guess I wanted to see if there were any interesting people on this site. I just started posting, and I do think it is funny how no one is talking back with me. (things that make you go, hummmm)

I lurked over here for a good year or so before I set up an account.

    Why?

I'm a member at several other forums. Been on staff with them at various points and various levels. There's only so much time to go around.

If you get in here around this time of year, I can't even keep up with the forum, much less contribute in a realistic way. Even now that my time on other forums has lessened for more time here.

On a personal level, to be quite honest, my stuff is a little left of center. I'm well aware of that. I'm not building coffins, or flying crank ghosts, or tombstones, or graveyards, or spiders, witches, etc etc. Would folks even want to see the strange stuff I do? Would it contribute anything?

And, where it's one thing to be known as the Halloween wierdo on another forum, it is quite intimidating putting your stuff out where EVERYONE is a halloween wierdo.

I poked around until I learned how to use the forums, but I didn't really lurk. Maybe some people just think we're a bit.....extreme.

Talking back, as in being rude and disrespectfull? (trolling or flaming to use the interweb vernacular)

You won't find that here. Actual group of mature folks here, not the idiots that make up 90% of internet forums.

If you mean no one is answering your posts, give us time. This place is kicking lately. A thread will be buried onto page 2 of a forum in a few hours at times. Hard to keep up with EVERYTHING.

Totally agree with all the reasons Ugly Joe gave.
I lurked for awhile before participating. In my case, I felt intimidated. Sometimes it can be a bit intimidating to see all the fantastic props that people make (ex. 3 axis skull) and then talk about or post a pic of your first tombstone.
Some of you guys on this forum are just too good
We got the idea for our first prop from this forum. A bodyslinger from the 2 scaryguys site.
I wouldn't have dared to post the end results here. It was really cheesy looking lol
But we've come a long since then.
