Default Most loved/loathed Halloween candy

I remember as a kid coming home from trick or treating and sorting through my Halloween candy. When it was all said and done I would have three piles. The first one was my favorites. Those candies that I would make a priority to save and ration out through the coming weeks savoring them for as long as I could. The second pile was the good candy. Not all-time faves but still great candy that I would derive much pleasure from. The dreaded third pile was the candy I hated. The stuff that was so gross that you couldn't even trade it to anyone. The candy you ended up throwing away. In the favorites pile would be the rare full size candy bar you’d get from that really rich family on the far side of town, Reece's Peanut butter Cups, and fun-sized Snickers. In the loath pile would be Tootsie Rolls, Bit O Honeys and those gross peanut butter candies that came in the plain orange or black wrappers. I hated those the most. Getting those always felt like such a rip off.

What are some of your favorite Halloween candies from past or present?

I've never understood the appeal of these!

Also, I remember getting those awful Necco wafers when I was a kid. Those things are chalky crap.

In pile to eat immediately: Snickers

In pile to eat only out of desperation when all other candy was gone: Three Musketeers

Okay, please remember that I'm 40, so some of my candy will be different from the candy you guys might get....

Favorites: Tootsie Rolls and Tootsie Roll pops (#1), Milky Ways, Pixie Stixs, 3 Musketeers, Jolly Ranchers (watermelon flavor) (all full size, of course; we didn't have "fun" size back in the 70s and 80s).

Okay pile: M&Ms, those no-name lollipops on the stick that curved up back into the lollipop, Hershey kisses (not very Halloween-y), caramels, candy corn, Sugar Daddies.

Yuk pile: Licorice, anything that had to do with root beer, Charms Blow Pops (tasted gritty to me for some reason and the gum was nasty), no-name candy in the orange wrapper, random gum and Dots (a very 70s candy).

I remember being really tired of Reeses' Peanut Butter Cups. The filling wasn't really to my tastes, and I just got way too many of the damn things.

I really liked those peanut butter taffies in the orange and black wrappers. Popcorn balls were great. I liked mini Nestles Crunches.

Nowadays I don't eat the same things I used to so I have to work a little harder for Halloween.

I know everyone always disagrees with me but those orange and black wrapper candies (Mary Janes) were one of my absolute favorites and still are. I was always glad other people hated them because my brother would always give me the ones he'd gotten! hah hah.

I also hate those waxy liquid-filled bottles and Neco wafers. YUCK.

I always loved anything chocolate (except Mounds or Almond Joy), skittles, and starbursts. I also always REALLY loved candy corn.

Good replies, I still love candy corn but must be Brachs made with real honey. No cheapies!!!!! Yes the full size candy bars were a treat and I remember hearing about razor blades in the apples. I kept a sharp eye out for any fruit givers certain they were bad, bad people and I had no fondness for change or pencils.

One grandma type in our neighborhood always had excellent carmel apples, ah to be a kid again!
