That the store bought tombstones are gawdy?
I've always been the type that liked a bit more realism in my Halloween displays, but I've found that the majority of store bought Halloween props, etc. are just getting to be too unrealistic looking.
Anybody with me on this?
Oh, and for those who are so inclined to say "make your own", I have...I was just curious to know if I was alone in this line of thinking.

Mmmmm, no. I like a little gaudiness in Halloween. The more realistic tombstones just look to bland to me and there are some real ones out there that are quite ornate. Besides, everything looks better with a skull, bat or spider on it!

I agree , the tombstones we buy in the stores are missing a little bit details to give it that 'realism' look. I mean thats a reason to 'modify' it yourself.

a lot of stores are starting to carry more cartoony looking tombstones,
and while they are nice and fall into the fringes of the 'spooky' category they aren't right for a realistic cemetery.
...maybe some people have had issues and complained over the years about the headstones looking 'too real' and sending 'the wrong message'
cant just tell their kids that ' no people cant have real cemeteries in their front yard'....somewhere in the north-woods darkness, a creature walks upright.
And the best advice you may ever get is never to go out…at night.

+1. I've picked up a few nice looking stones with good detail/scrolling/etc... Like Johnny said, you can simply thicken them up with extra foam. Lay the stone flat on some 2 inch pink insulation foam board. Trace around it, and then carve out the pattern. Since most of the stones are flat backed, glue them to the foam board, sand the edges to blend and then paint to match. You can also mount them to bases to give them height and dimension.

I agree that most should be thicker, but i have seen some really nice store bought ones that are really nice.
I just can't seem to spend $14.00 or more on one tombstone when I can make three for the same price.

Does this mean I shouldn't use my glitter covered ones from Wal-Greens

Ok, so I'm not crazy. Would it be too much to ask for a company to make affordable resin cast tombstones that look a bit more realistic? LOL 'Cause that's what I'm looking for.
