My son is in 1st grade this year in public school (last year he was still at our church school). I just found out at a Moms' meeting H'ween is not one of the 3 parties he can have! I knew it was going to happen, I'm a teacher (18 years) and I know I've had to fly under the radar for a few parents, i.e. only doing "nature" items like spiders and pumpkins. I'm so glad I was in charge of his preschool parties. Even though he attended a church school, they enjoyed the H'ween spirit. We didn't have "Fall Festivals" like I had to have in public school, we had full-on H'ween! I'm really happy I did it then, because now I have NOTHING, not even a Fall Festival. I guess I'll have to really go out at home and the trunk or treat we do at church.
*Our church also does an awesome trunk or treat. Lots of participation and they never have it own H'ween.

What?! One of the three parties he can have? So parties that you have for your son at home having nothing to do with school? Parties that the school has in the classrooms? I'm confused yet disgusted at the same time. Who's decision was this? I can kind of see that kind of decision coming from a private school or church who associates Halloween with thinking the devil is playful and fun or whatever, but a public school? What do these parents have against Halloween? Halloween is fun. It's dress up and make believe and all sorts of other wonderful stuff. What are they attributing to Halloween that is negative? I can attribute a few negative things about Xmas. Are they going to cancel that too? How about how it's supposed to be a time of charity and giving but it's really just people out on the roads and in the stores killing each other and being nasty because they are stressed out about having everything perfect for their stupid holiday and trying to get the perfect gift for people out of feelings of obligation not because they want to. It's stupid. Halloween rocks!

Unfortunately I think it is becoming a standard thing. Halloween has become a Harvest Fest, and Christmas has become a general Holiday party. Everyone is so worried they are going to offend everyone else that they have taken away from our kids what we so enjoyed as children ourselves. Las year, our district took it one step further and decided that instead of cookies and cupcakes for parties we should replace them with a healthy snack.
Fortunately several years ago, our PTO took a stand, and since it is not a in school event we could have a Halloween Carnival on a Saturday night where the kids could come dressed up if they wanted to.

I just cannot wrap my brain around what anyone has against halloween!!! While shopping at Wal-greens last night one of the young cashiers was dragged kicking and screaming by the older cashiers into the halloween isles. Supposedly she was scared of the decorations. If this is our future...we are doomed

Ya no public schools are a funny thing. I'm going to say something so please don't take it in a raciest kind of way cause it's not meant to be like that.
Okay so here goes, intoday's public schools it's okay for muslim and other middle eastern to where the (watchyama call it) long scarfy things on there head as to where it's not okay for someone of a diffren't religion to drawl or make a cross in a project.
On halloween, you can dress up, but it can't include a mask or a stinch of make up.
Sorry I hate public schools when it comes to this kinda stuff. My old elemntry use to do a parade walking around the school with all the student's dressed up in full, now they don't do it anymore.
I guess I don't understand why other people care so much about other peoples religions. It's like what's there beef? What's there concern? I mean there doing nuthing wrong. After all, were in America. (most of us, don't worrie other members from other places on the forum, I love you guys) but we are suppose to be a free country with rights.
I don't see why it should matter who, what or why we want to be or do something to anyone else. If you think about it, it's kind of like conuisesm. One day your free to celebrarte a pastion in your life, the next day you have to have a pastion for something you never knew existed.
Well I can say as a proud halloweeiner F-off to all the haters in the world. There's no space or time to have bitchers like you here. I mean if people get so tore up over one silly little day, move somewhere on an island and start your own little villiage.
It sucks you can't have a halloween party. I would anyway. If they don't like those bitches can go else where and have there own little party. (and when I say bitches, I mean the people that complaine not the little kids, there innocent.) :-)
Rock on people of the halloween forum. Have killer partys this year and don't look back.
Rock on everyone, have a killer halloween. :-)halloween is a super cool holiday.

Hey believe it or not, that's acutally common for alot of people. I mean people are scared of bubble gum, mustard, balloons and even a member of the fourm is vastley afraid of frogs. That kinda thing should just be put aside. Making fun of those people ain't getting us no where. All we can do it look forward to the smiles and laughts of others that are like us.halloween is a super cool holiday.

My school used to do the same thing. I always dressed up for Halloween. I might add that was many, many years ago. But the school doesn't allow it now.

My son's school ditched the Halloween parade, party, and costumes last year.
I think it's so sad that they can't dress up and celebrate at school. But the last few years they've sent home so many lists of appropriate costumes, make up, props and candy, it was bound to happen anyway.
We had our own party last year at home.
I'm considering a kid party again this year, because I feel bad that they won't have a party at school, but the kids were such a pain last year----a bunch of 10 year old boys. I swear they thought it was moe fun to beat on each other all night than anything! It was fun, but I was so happy to see them all go home for the night!
