I want to build a well for our Donna (she's cast as Samara from The Ring this year).
I want cheap white styrofoam. I have a little, but not nearly enough for this project.
Where on earth can I find some of this in thicknesses that would work for stones?
I was hoping to hit up a few business that would typically throw out this stuff, so as to make this really cheap (free), but I'd be willing to pay a few bucks if someone knew where to check...
I know that Michaels and other craft places have the styro sheets that are not too expensive, (but they ain't cheap either) but I really want the beaded white styro that everybody uses for packing items.
Any ideas?

Have you tried one of the home improvement stores? I haven't bought any this year so I'm not sure of the price anymore.

harrison - very cool! I love the moss! I know the foamboard you're talking about at the Dollar Tree... that stuff is great (and cheap).
It will probably be my backup if I can't locate the beaded styro... but good to know that cardboard/foam can look that good.
LHallow - I can't remember if the home improvement stores carry the beaded styro. In my area, they don't carry the foamcore sheets any larger than 3/4" so no 2 or 3 inch thick foam to be had. (it's SE Texas - we don't get real winters so no need for thick insulation.
)
I'll have to check in with them just to see if they have any, tho!I'm a Halloween Bride! 10/31/2002

I too have been looking for the same thing and my local Lowes, Walmart and Home Depot do not have any. I am thinking about calling Sear's, places like this that might unload fridges, dishwashers, etc. to see if they would give it to me. I am making milk crate collumns with mine.

Do you have any local fish stores? Mine loaded me down with styrofoam boxes for shipping my own fish a couple years ago. I had SO many that I turned a bunch of them into tombstones. From what I was told- they have to pay the transhipper for the boxes, but then they just throw them out.
"Where ya going, baby? You going to get the corpses?"
"Yes, Moe...I'm going to get the corpses..."

Our local Home Depot sells the pink styrofoam and the white. I just bought a 6 pack of the pre-cut white and it was $ 6 and change. I think the pink stuff was a little more for a full 4 x 8 sheet, maybe $10 or $13. The pre-cut stuff is great for tombstones. The 6 pack will usually give me 10-12 tombstones. Not sure how it would work for your project. Hope this helps.

There is a company near here that cuts styrofoam inserts for siding from giant foam billet, and they often have scrap pieces that are about 4 foot square by 2 or so inches. If I ask nicely, they will let me have some of that scrap for tombstones and such. I found this place my just looking in online yellow pages for any companies that deal with foam and then asking for their help. You'd be surprised what you can find for free if you make enough phone calls.
