Not entirely, but the decision to buy our "new" house (depending on inspection next week) was heavily influenced by the potential to make it very creepy. We'll know for sure next week if we'll be buying it. There is work to do, which we're aware of, but we don't know about any hidden problems.
There is a side entrance into the basement. Hub says, "We could make people enter through there and walk through something scary to get to the party."
There is an old garage/barn that could be turned into something.
Next to the house is a well entrance. Hub immediately thought it would be good for a pneumatic pop-up.
Plus, it's in the country, which automatically helps with the creepy.

Melissa,
That is a wonderfull home! If I could buy It I sure would. The only thing to me that would suck is that it's in the country. Usally that means there arn't many neighbors around. Still, it seems like you have a perfect yard for a cemetary, that barn is just awesome ( i can just picture pumpkin patches and scarecrows) and that first pic, well it will make an outstanding entrence. Theres SO MUCH potential for this home through out the halloween season.
Best of Luck house hunting, and please keep us posted.
:-)halloween is a super cool holiday.

Nice lookin place!! Whenever I have looked at houses I have always had a visual in my mind of their decorating potential. I think that is a natural thing for haunters or xmas buffs. I make yards & yards of fresh garland for xmas to put up outside......that was a thing mentioned the 1st time I looked at this house with its 50 leland cypress trees in front of the house...good for garland & wreaths. Plus the front yard is huge with a small fruit tree orchard on the side. Plenty of room to build halloween stuff.
Its got a terrific building out back that is 2 stories, it would be perfect to add to the haunt but the guys gotta get things straightened up back there, since the garage is full of my stuff all the garage stuff had to go in the shed. Also we have a huge carport & long driveway.......hoping to do a lot more with that next year.
I always lived in the country & its great when you have a lot of room & DARKNESS from no bright street lights! Good luck in getting this place...as I said it looks great!

I love it! I would buy it for the barn alone; I have a thing for barns, though.
Good choice, hope it works out for ya!Dear Sweet Leota, Beloved By All. In Regions Beyond Now But Having a Ball...

Love the house, especially the spooky barn! I agree that the country aspect means a lack of ToTs, but you could probably hold one heck of a bash there (AND not have to worry about people complaining about the noise!). I'm just finishing paying off my car in the next few months, and then will be free to start looking for a house. And heck yeah- it's ALL about the haunting potential! My goal is to have a perfectly creepy house for next year, but my ideal is an Addams family-style house. (yeah, right! waiting to win the lottery on that one!)

Although I love our current house, especially since it is a corner lot in a fantastic neighborhood, we would love a 4 bedroom home. But nothing ever seems like it has as much potential as our current house when it comes to yard and how I would do a cemetery. DH thinks I am nuts when I will say, "that was a nice house, but the tombstones wouldn't fit in it"...LOL

Thanks everyone!
It's sad that we won't have many - if any - ToTers, but we're trading that for fewer neighbors, and, hopefully, more privacy. Our next-door neighbors right now are so awful, with running outside everytime we go out and demanding to know what we're doing, that I haven't been in my backyard in two years.
The bonus for any ToTers that show up will be full-size candy bars, and probably more than one.
We want to entertain, especially with Halloween (maybe not this year, not in a big way), and it was in my mind the whole time.

Awesome, wonderful property, fingers are crossed that it all works out.
When we bought our place last year, the Halloween potential was not a factor in the decision -- but we definitely DID talk about it. The property is 6 acres deep; to get to the house, you go down a looooong driveway. First, through a small patch of woods, which opens into the fields and numerous outbuildings, all of which are built "old style" -- vertical plank siding, tin roofs, etc. -- these are the barn, blacksmith shop, sheds...outhouse (no longer used, thank you) -- then another copse of trees before reaching the house. You actually don't see the house until you're past the "village." Can be very creepy -- it was Beloved who first gave voice to what I'd thought..."we can have so much fun here"a plague on both your houses

Guilty as charged. Well, it wasn't the only factor but I definitely considered it...a lot. We bought an old foreclosure that needed tons of work but it has sooo much potential. We replaced all the carpet downstairs with dark hardwood floors except for the kitchen which we put in tile. We repainted every single room ( it is almost 3000 sq. feet) and did a bunch of other things that I shall not list here. I just love older houses. Although this one isn't that old. It is only about 40 years old. The yard has lots of trees...very creepy

Anyway, enough about my house. Your house is fantastic. I can't wait to see pictures of your haunt. Good luck!
BTW, auditor, your house sounds great, too. Sound like it came right out of a ghost story.
