Just curious to see if The Great Pumpkin visits anyone else's house on Halloween here? Every Halloween after trick or treating and before bed we watch It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown as a family. My children love this tradition and eagerly await the arrival of the following morning to get their gifts left for them from ..... you guessed it ........ The Great Pumpkin. It is usually one item each and sometimes something as simple as a hotwheels car or an item that my they have wanted, if not something bigger. (Note we also set a trap for the leprechaun every St. Patrick's Day and he leaves an item in the trap) I want to instill the love of holidays that I have on to my children. Anyways was just curious if anyone else did this.

That's a great idea. I would love to do that when I have children one day. I do have one question. I went to school with a bunch of kids who would ridicule or think I was strange for talking about something they don't practice. Does your children get any heat from friends or schoolmates about the Great Pumpkin or leprechaun traps?
I'll bet living in a nudist colony takes all the fun out of Halloween. – Anonymous

That's too cute! My kids are 17 and 21 so its probably too late to start that tradition, huh? Sounds like fun though!

Most of their friends are really ok with it. They don't tend to give them a hard time really about it actually they usually say they wish that the got a visit from the Great Pumpkin. I do have to say some parents think I'm completely nuts and my husband thought I was insane at first, but he's used to it now and he accepts it. I've always been a holiday fanatic with Halloween being right at the top of the list and Christmas running a pretty close second. Most of the kids that ride my childrens' bus all love to look at our house when they drive by and ask my kids tons of questions.

Some of the traps we've made from the Leprechaun have been pretty inventive, and some as basic as an empty 12 pack soda carton with a stick holding up the open flap. (My oldest son came up with that one when he was 5 and he was really hoping that he'd catch him. He got a special note that year left in the box from the leprechaun that said something like I have to say that was a nice try but you won't get me gold that easy. Better luck next year.)

For the great pumpkin we leave out a few pieces of candy and a glass of water (after all pumpkins need water to grow my kids say :P)

my daughter let the grandson and a friend of his spending the night do a lep trap. they made it look like the lep got caught and had to bust his way out. they got a few coins that were strange looking from a coin shop and dropped them around so it looked like a few coins got lost in the getaway. i had never heard of it before so was surprised when i read you did it also. that is so cool. we watch the charlie brown special but never have had pumpkins planted so never did the pumpkin patch. the year my grandson found out there was no santa he was very sad. he said "next you will tell me there is no easter rabbit." "what, there is no easter rabbit!" so when he lost a tooth, i got a piece of thin filmy blackish gray see through material, cut out a fairy, placed it under his pillow with a $1.00 in it's outstretched hand. his mom came that night and crashed with him. when he woke up in the morning and found that under his pillow i told him the tooth fairy must have been leaving him money and his mom must have walked in and scared away the fairy without her shadow. he was thrilled. he took it to school and told everyone. the next night i went and purchased a white bead and a black bead in the shape of a tear, some glitter, and a little wooden box. i threw some glitter around his bed and put the two tears by his pillow. when he saw them i told him the fairy was looking for her shadow and was sad. he absolutly refused to put the shadow back under the pillow for the fairy. finally i persuaded him and the next morning he awoke to find the little wooden box, i had painted a fairy on the lid, put a lot of glitter in it and a note. it read, thank you for giving back what wasn't yours to keep. i really missed my shadow. here is some magic power, when you are scared just throw a pinch of this around your bed and it will chase away your bad dreams. i rolled it up and tied it with a ribbon. after that i would see a little pinch of glitter around his bed every once in awhile. a year later he was showing a friend his box and telling all about it. they didn't see me around the corner. his friend said that's all made up you know, like santa. my grandson said, i know, i figured it out after awhile, but someone really loved me to do so much.

Oh no! My kids are too old now (19 & 25) but I wish I would have thought of that! What a fantastic idea!!!

I love Charlie Brown's The Great Pumpkin.
I was always so sad when he kept getting rocks. As a child, I thought it was very mean for adults to pick on Charlie like that.
Anyone know where I can find chocolate rocks?

We have a Thanksgiving tradition of watching Chevy Chase's Christmas Vacation after we are all too stuffed to move off the couch. I have moose mugs I bring out for the occasion for a toast to the upcoming holidays

    Awwwwwww. That is really cool.

I love the idea. I don't have kids, but I may just have to get hubby a Great Pumpkin gift. I think it is awesome to try to make every holiday special like that.

I still watch the Peanuts Holiday cartoons every year. even though my youngest daughter is now 18, i still pick up little halloween presents for her and her sisters. Last year i got them some Avon Halloween earrings and lip gloss. You're never too old to enjoy Halloween! Long live the Great Pumpkin!
