The Great Pumpkin lives! Every year I treat the children in my family to Hallowe'en gifts. Here's this year's list:

1. Madeline, 14
  • The Addams Family (DVD)
  • Haunted Wisconsin (book)
2. James, 11
  • Invaders From Mars (DVD)
  • The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror Hoodoo Voodoo Brouhaha (book)
3. Katherine, 11
  • Deep and Dark and Dangerous: A Ghost Story (book)
  • The Nightmare Before Christmas (DVD)
4. Maria, 8
  • Ghost Cats: Human Encounters with Feline Spirits (book)
  • Monster House (DVD)
5. Noel, 7
  • It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (t-shirt)
  • The House With a Clock In Its Walls (book)
  • A Hallowe'en advent calendar

Then I throw in a number of Hallowe'en "stocking stuffers" that I find at Walgreens or Target, like black and orange stockings, a jack-o'-lantern carving kit, or glow bracelets. Finally, lots of candy: gummy worms, chocolate eyeballs, and the like.

They love it! And they ask when the Great Pumpkin plans to come this year.

Ghost cats??? A book???? Two of my very favorite things EVER. *must find* I was just talking to OEJ about trying to make Halloween a big deal with gifts and stuff and duh, the Great Pumpkin never crossed my mind. Now to get a Halloween tree........there's lots of really cool Halloween ornaments. Brilliant ideas here!

Succub'Oz, although you can't preview GHOST CATS at Amazon, you can preview it at Google Books.

We were at Kroger's (a local grocery store) and my son saw a Mr Potato head (halloween edition I believe it was a vampire) and he said he wanted The Great Pumpkin to get it for him this year. I was so happy (he's 6 so it was exiciting for me that he remembered it, and made me feel all warm and happy inside) I guess I know what he's getting from the great pumpkin this year :P

I got both of my daughters the Halloween edition Mr. Potato Head as well! Along with around 15 Halloween books

That is awesome, Gothikren.

That's a really great idea of a fun thing to do for kids for the holidays.

I have a friend who does a similar thing for Christmas...her family digs a hole in the ground on Christmas eve and let's them put a little peppermint/red and white candy in there. Then when the kids go to bed, they remove the peppermint and put a candy cane sticking up out of the ground in it's place.

OMG I love the candycane idea lol I'm so going to have to do that this year. Maybe I can have my kids plant those mini candy pumpkins and stick a real one there in it's place for halloween. :P
