No, don't watch the Peanuts. I'm more of a Nightmare before Xmas kind of guy. I love that show so much I have it on LD, DVD, and VHS. I also have the cd that I keep in my truck and play for about a month before the big day.
I love the ideas of the great pumpkin and the lep trap. Since I can't convince my other half to pop out any kids (biologically impossible) I treat the little niece on his side. Last year I sent her a "create a bear" that was dressed as a pirate. This year I think I'll send it with the great pumpkin as the sender.
THat is a great idea. The only thing we do similar is on St. Nicholas' feast day, December 6. My wife's family was German and St. Nicholas would visit in the evening, throwing a small bag of candy in from the back porch. We continued the tradition.
We don't have any kids, but my hubby and I do snuggle up together after the trick or treating has died down and watch It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. It reminds me of rushing home from trick or treating to catch it on TV when I was a little girl. Does anyone remember those Dolly Madison commercials they used to play? Even now when I watch The Great Pumpkin I want to eat a fruit pie...
It's just a pleasant way to sort of wind down the season and say goodbye to Halloween. On a side note, the song "The Great Pumpking Waltz" by Vince Guaraldi is one of my all time jazz favorites and I play it constantly throughout the fall.
Do you guys watch any of the other Charlie Brown specials? Hubby and I also curl up and watch the Thanksgiving special on THanksgiving night, and we manage to watch the Christmas one several times during the season...
**Hey, everybody, had to drop in for a visit tonight, I'm missin' y'all!!..**
Gothikren, you've shared a brilliant idea here...why I'd feel like skipping Halloween if we couldn't watch It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown EVERY SINGLE SEASON. But I've been doin' it all wrong! Our sons are 5, and so far I've been leaving them goodies every Halloween morning....this year I'll have to tell them to have nothing but sincerity in their hearts and put in a good word for them if the Great Pumpkin comes after bedtime.
***GASP****, GOOD GRIEF, I SAID IF!!!! Now WE'RE DOOOOOMED.
Thnx for all the great replies. I have to say I really do love doing this every year for my kids.

Hamm I have 4 children one is 17 (female) and the rest (sons) ages 13, 10, 6. There was a year with my oldest son wasn't very happy about watching the movie, and I had to say this is what we do this is our tradition and we do it as a family because we love each other and that means all of us. After I explained that he was ok about it, but I'm sure the gift the Great Pumpkin brings was a big part of the enticement. :P So I definatly know what you mean. I think most kids go through those phases where it's not kewl to watch or do something that's cutesy like It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown.
That show came on every year when I was growing up and just recently they have been showing it every year so far. I bought it on dvd and can now watch it any time I feel like a little halloween. I hope the Great Pumpkin visits my house this year! Or my pumpkin patch!
