Default Please help with getting TOT's to my house!!!!

In the spring I moved into a new development that is attached to an old development. The area is still VERY new, with only a dozen families living there. I really want to go all out and better then last year. Except I really don't think anyone will come down my street. I haven't done any building this year because I don't want to be disappointed plus my Mom died (biggest cheerleader for my props) so it was also hard to get motivated. But now it feels like fall, and I don't want to give up. Can anyone suggest a way to get people down my street???

as for getting tots to your house i am in the country here and i make flyers and go to convinience stores in the town next to mine and put a few out , also the newspaper every year put an article or pictures of our display for free ...enter contest also might give you some publicity i did 2 years ago and got my display on tv....last year we entered a radio contest and they put up pic on their web site ...... also go to the nearest bigger town to the costume store and pu a flyer there , and my daugther that went to daycare we pass flyers there ,2 years ago on halloween day i got in my costume that morning taking her to daycare and had a bag of lollies for everyone and flyers for the parents , this year she goes to the local school so the word is aleready out with kids when she got out of the bus all the kids saw she lived where their is alot of halloween stuff so she made a few news friends lol ....

we also put up a BIG cardboard sign in the village on the street corner at halloween day ....

I'm very sorry about your mother. I lost mine 5 years ago September. I didn't feel like doing anything either. My husband was beside himself. He didn't know what to do. He ended up buying me a Dept 56 halloween village.
I put out some inflatables(I know, that's how bad it was).

Anyway, I know how you are feeling. I miss my mother and that will never go away, but I remember her fondly this time of year because she is the reason halloween is my favorite holiday.

The witch from Canada had excellent ideas!
Is there a school bus stop in your neighborhood? Maybe you could hand out flyers as the kids get off the bus?

Thanks everyone for you kind words!! Sorry for your loss as well Kruella.

When would you put up your full display to get the local papers to come and see? They do have that here with other peoples haunts. But I'm not sure how to go about it.

I was thinking of posting signs a week before halloween on some of the busier streets to direct them to my house. I love the idea of flyers, I could post them at the local grocery stores.

Yep, advertise for sure. Word of mouth will work but only after a couple of Halloweens. We get so many people from previous years that I never advertise beyond the end of our street. We live on a cul-de-sac and just can't handle all the traffic. My neighbors hate me! lol!

*edited to add* I have a great link for flyers. Someone posted it on here about 3 years ago and they are the best flyer files I have ever seen!

be carefull about school or bus stop advertising , you need permission for that and any publicity ususally needs to go to adults first....

i made my flyer model myself using 3 or 4 of my props in photo on it to show a bit what we had it helps people see what kind of display you do as well

So sorry for your loss 13Mummy.
I too lost a loved one, it was my dad . His passing happened on Halloween day 2007. My favorite day will be forever changed without him. I had to be strong and it's good to see your being strong as well, especially when loosing a parent too soon. As for attracting the tots to your house, if you can put a kool light up prop on a tall pole that shines as a beacon the tots and there parents should come to see what's instore. Good Luck =0)

I would set my display up earlier than you have planned. That usually encourages people to make the trip to your house.

Several years ago I was the first house at the end of a cul-de-sac. I made sure there was plenty of lights and sounds to get the TOTers to make the trip to my end of the block.
