Two suggestions off the top of my head....set up earlier than usual, but not all at once..build some excitement. Also, if you have kids or your close neighbors have them...have them get the word out as it get's closer to October. Kids have the biggest mouths and the whole neighborhood/school will probably know your house is the place to be. The first few years I did any decorating we had pathetic turn-out (like 10 kids). When the district changed the bus route to go past my house all of a sudden I had lots of TOT's. I put out the big stuff early (since my house is way up on a hill, they wouldn't be able to see any small stuff from the road) to build some suspense, then I put the new things and details out as it gets closer to the 31st.

Last year I built a graveyard for my apartment building for the first time (I used to help someone else decorate before). I wasn't sure I'd get it done or how it would look, so I told only my two closest co-workers and a few other friends about it. Didn't get many visitors, but I still had a great time with the ones who came.

This year they're telling others at work (factory population 600+) to pay me a visit. Depending on how things go I might put out a flyer or two. The neighborhood haunted house is gone this year and the University of Nebraska is ten blocks away.

Then the problem might be what to do with 'em all...
