Do you have The Pennysaver in your area?
PennySaverUSA.com Online Classifieds
Perhaps put a classified in that once or twice heading into October, letting people know about your haunt.

Perhaps you could try Craigs List as well? (I'm uncertain if that would violate the terms of use or not...I need to check on that)

I am so sorry at the loss of your mother. Mine passed three years ago and I still think of her every day.

I don't know if this will go with your haunt, but a few years ago I saw where this guy had the same problem you do, and took one of those large blow mold light up plastic pumpkins and raised it above his house on 20 feet of PVC pipe, so it could be seen from the whole neighborhood. He said it drew tons of people just to see what was going on.

Wow Dark Star that's a pretty cool idea. How did he get it to stay up and not fall over?

Sorry to here of everyones losses. It seems when you loose someone very close that the holiday's are just never the same.

Ugly Joe - we don't have those up here in Canada, but thanks for the idea.

Southernbelle - thanks for the link, it's given me great ideas.

A witch from canada - great ideas, unfortunitly my kid is only 17 months, so I can't go to his school yet. =) I think I'll just post at the local grocery stores.

Any more ideas I'll be willing to take. =)

I've been letting all the new neighbors know how much I'm into Halloween so they aren't surprised.

I'ld reccomend some solid rigid conduit over PVC pipe for going that high. To hold it up, a couple sand bags on the base plate should do the trick. Build it to fit the roof of your house, and throw the sandbags on to keep it there.

Another beacon I've (almost) used before was some glow sticks in a balloon.

Go to a specialty store, and get the REALLY BIG super strong balloons. A couple of light sticks tossed in, then the helium (fill it outside in the cold), tether it to the roof, and let her fly.

Of course, I only got to do a test run of that idea...It flew for 3 days before popping. Had plenty of cars passing by just to see what was up. Then, 2 days before Halloween, I hear from the basement:

"Alec, hurry, go get a towel!!!!"

That can't be good...

I start down the stairs to see 2 boys fleeing the bathroom into their rooms. There they had used my other 64" baloon to make THE most massive water balloon I have EVER seen. It filled the entire sink, and grew so big over that, they couldn't reach the faucet to turn it off, and as I got there, there was this bulbous, undulating mass sitting on the sink. "What the" got out of my mouth, as I didn't fully realize what I was looking at, when the pressure built up enough to pop the spout of the balloon off the faucett, and the balloon became a gargantuan water weenie throwing water ALL OVER the bathroom, waving around like a firehose.

I was so busy laughing, I don't think I ever got around to punishing those boys...

Building things early & start to put a few things out.
That will start to generate interest. If you have a party or costume shop, ask if you can advertise there.

Be careful what you ask for.... lol

P.S. Sorry for everyone's losses.

When we had a house in a good neighborhood, we set up late Sept. (Non-expensive stuff out) that brought the paper and local TV news.

I'm so impressed with everyone and how they are able to get people out. I'm very nervous and worried that I won't get anyone.

My idea right now is to make some signs and put it on the boulevard of the major street that our development is off of. I hope that is enough. I like the idea of beacons. I hope all the lights in my yard will be enough.

So sorry about your loss 13Mummy - I lost my mom several years ago during the summer, and I know all the Holidays immediately after that were kinda sad. She's in your heart, so she'll be there as your Halloween spirit forever.

As to getting folks to stop by, the flyer idea is great. Do they allow flyers in your local library? Maybe in the grocery store too.
