Default I quit the job at Spirit!

I only worked 3 shifts but just couldn't take it anymore. They don't want to set up scenes---manager says (whines), "the store is too small". They don't want to take stuff out of the boxes---manager whines, "children will break it." Manager complains that this job made him hate Halloween. Also, he doesn't allow any pictures or videos to be taken of the merchandise. WTH???? I went to 2 stores last year and they let me take all the pics I wanted.

I took this job because I thought it would be fun. If I wanted minimum wage, a whiney boss and NO FUN ... I would have applied to Walmart!

I just told him this wasn't for me and left.

I will be emailing Spirit this morning though to let them know about this store. It's so sad to see people in a job they have absolutely no passion for.

Yikes! that boss sounded like a Halloween Scrooge! What a terrible experience you had these last 3 days!
Well I don't blame you for leaving....I think it's a good idea to email the company and express your concerns....I don't think they would take to well to having a grouch representing their company....goodness! Halloween is about having fun....

My son had the same problem last year. He only worked there a few days then left due to a terrible manager. They should only let people who truly LOVE halloween manage these places. Sorry it didn't work out for you.

I quit a couple years ago as well, had a tift with the owner.

I still love the store and get along with him now that I don't work for him.

As for your manager WHY WOULD YOU WORK AT SPIRIT IF YOU HATE HALLOWEEN?!?!?!?!?

Some messed up people out there. Happy you didn't stay. Is there another location you could have switched to though?

That's nuts but I don't blame you at all.

I have no idea how someone could manage one of those stores and have no passion for Halloween. Lame.

Nope. I've lived here over 10 years and always had to travel to find Halloween merchandise so you can imagine my enthusiasm when I saw a Spirit Store was coming.

And to make matters worse, I know I'm the reason that dang thing is here. Last year my husband and I went to the usual store (2 hours away) and I finally met the owner. She owns 3 stores and we talked for almost 2 hours about Halloween and Spirit Stores. I told her she should open one here and she had never even thought of it because the population is less than 40,000 and it's the Bible Belt and people are against Halloween, blah, blah, blah.

But we convinced her that she would be the only game in town and she actually started to love the idea. Anyhow, long story short, I gave her my name and number and told her I was interested in managing a store here this year and she said she'd seriously look into it and she'd call me if she decided to do it. Fast forward to now and the guy she actually hired "fell" into it because she couldn't find anyone else that was willing to work 80 hours a week until it opened. HELLO!!!!!???? *points at self*

I'm thinking she misplaced my number or something cause I know that she knows I would have been soooo much better at this than the asshat that she has there now.

*sigh* Oh well, it's all for the best. They weren't going to carry some of the props I want anyways and that means I couldn't hide them in the ceiling (that's a shout-out to the forum member that did that. LOL!), and so I wouldn't get them at 1/2 off after Halloween anyways.

What a putz! Hellooooo? "SPIRIT" store...the name implies you have some! I totally support your intent to email HQ and let them know a future motor vehicle employee is running one of their stores. With such a short retail life you'd think they'd come out with all guns firing - scenes, displays, etc. Let us know if they respond to your email Southern Belle.

That stinks!! I feel sorry for the customers that store will have. I'm sure they would have been happier and better serviced by a salesperson who was actually excited about Halloween. I'm sure you could have offered them many ideas/variations of using the props and costumes.
Sorry it didn't work out.
That manager sounds LAZY!! Kind of like running a pet shop when you hate animals !!LOL

I don't blame you. I can never understand why people take jobs that they have no interest in, I have been a teacher and nanny for many years and I can't even count the number of people who told me they hate children.
