it could be candy, money, toy, etc as long as it was given to you at someone's door while trick or treating. mine was a little plastic jack-o-lantern that you held up to the light and looked through to see different little halloween scenes like a viewmaster. i got that and my friends all got candy, they must have only had a few of those to give out.![]()

I can t rember the best thing... but the only thing I do remember like it was yesterday is, Some one made a paper cut out of a pumpkin and it had 2 pennies for the eyes. before you think "how cheap !" you have to realize this was in the "60's" ! LOL, Iam not sure if it was cheap or not but its one thing that Ive always remembered.

Believe it or not...grapes. My siblings and I went to a house of a very nice family in the neighborhood who wasn't very well off. My 2 sisters went first and each got a nickel. He asked me to hold on and came back with a red face and kind of hid what he was giving me, putting them into the bottom of my bag. After we left the yard, I looked. I had a huge bunch of grapes in a baggy. I called out "thank you! I love grapes!" and the dude cracked a smile of relief and waved.
I let my mom check them first but they were the first thing I had that night. Loved them.

One thing that I remembering getting as a kid was a package of 'milk shake mix' to add to milk to make instant milkshakes. We went back to that house several times to get more. The next day at school we (our whole table) opened our little cartons of yucky white milk and made milkshakes out of them!
I can't remember if it made the milk actually taste like a milkshake or not but I'm sure my fantasy rich 8 year old mind at the time sure did think so! lol

Two things come to mind.
First, homemade popcorn balls. The best tasting ever!
Second, an empty box of candy cigarettes. Let me explain....there was this old house in our neighborhood where all the older kids said a real witch lived. On Halloween night, I was REALLY frightened, but I mustered up enough courage to ring the witch's door bell. She handed out candy cigarettes(this was early 1970's). When I got home to dump out and investigate all my candy, the cigarette box was empty! Proving she was a REAL witch!
I felt so proud of myself. I was brave enough to face her and survive! That feeling is what fuels my desire to scare TOT's

There was one house in my neighborhood that gave out cans of soda. We used to hit every single house and try to make that one mid-way through. It was thirsty work!
Oh look, another glorious morning. Makes me SICK!

Awwww, Mandi!!! That story just almost brings a tear to my eye!
As far as treats, the only thing that really stands out to me is...pennies. (It was not the best treat, just the most memorable.) From the coach at our elementary school. 2 or 3 pennies. Even to an 8-year old it was kinda..."Eh."

A baggie of homemade popcorn. There was one house that always made fresh popcorn, as soon as you came around the corner you could smell it. Keep in mind this was in the 70's when people actually popped popcorn on the stove and shook it up with melted butter and salt. YUM! Popcorn is still my favorite snack.

Homemade candy apples and popcorn balls. Those were the best along with the homemade candies! This was in the late sixties and OMG the little old ladys sure made the good stuff.
