We stopped by Walgreen today and as we were pulling into the parking lot, we noticed a pile of discarded building supplies behind the store. We asked the manager if we could dumpster dive and he said 'sure'. We walked away with several 4 foot + pieces of different diameter PVC pipe and a bunch of large scraps of blue extruded foam! I was doing a happy dance!

Yeah Bethene, it was a really lucky find. But hell, I would have been just as happy with one free PVC tube too. Any piece of good prop supply for free is a great piece!
We use the PVC for tons of uses like fences, supports, structures and such.
I basically use the foam for making tombstones and I'm in love with extruded foam. It's so much stronger and easier to work with than the cheaper bubble type white foam. I see another obelisk in my future hehehehehe**********

We were given free reign on the construction site across the street from me but I suddenly lost my helpers. If you could see how many pieces of 2" bluefoam is tossed daily you all would cry

Glad you got to save some and give it a new life!

I'll have to chime in and brag too.
The other day, I posted on craigslist that I was looking for rebar. We use the rebar to set up our cemetary fence, our tombstones, and other props.
A guy responded and said he had some, but that he wouldn't give it to us for free.
I looked at Lowe's, and the cheapest we could get it was 64 cents per foot.
I told the guy I would give him 50 cents per foot. He said OK. I thought it was a pretty good deal, and was ready to buy $20 worth (40 feet).
He was so entertained by the reason I wanted it (the haunted house) that I ended up with 240 feet of rebar for $10. (less than a nickle per foot)
I'm not sure I can use it all this year, but I've got more than enough to set up my haunt this year.Fright in Falcon - Behind the Scenes

Tracy, that's awesome!
I really want to try using PVC pipes to make an iron fence type of thing like that guy in the other thread. Sooo cool!
