Thread: When do you take out Halloween stuff?

Yeaaaa! We got our halloween boxes down yesterday! I haven't really gone through them yet, just sort of peeked as we pulled out the boxes.

It starts my heart racing!

I needed to pull them out because I can't remember what I bought last year after Halloween.

side note, we have 42 rubbermaid 20 gallon boxes in Halloween colors plus assorted items that don't fit in boxes, we have them stacked up in the garage and my daughter took a picture of them for her screen saver on her cel phone - her friends where asking her what she was doing yesterday and she had to reply ' Getting out Halloween stuff'

My stuff comes out two or three weeks before Halloween, before my party. Most of my stuff is for the party, but this year we'll have the front haunted as well, so it should be the first week in October.

I too LOVE going through all my boxes! It's like Christmas morning for haunters... remembering all the stuff you forgot about, and the stuff you bought on sale the week after that you get all excited about using for the first time.

In years past it was about the 2nd week of October, with things still going up the day before. We want to actually enjoy the beautiful October weather this year, so wife and I agreed September 1 is when we start!

HA! Sept 1st is just early enough to get the Halloween haters on your case. I think it's great though and if my wife wouldn't give me a hard time about it, I'd do the same. I get the feeling that if I did, I might be buried in my cemetery though... she'd have to post the pics of my 2008 haunt and there would be a fresh grave right in front.

I'll pull out the harvest decor on August 31st. Thoughout September I sneak in a little bit of Halloween but the full explosion begins October 1st.

At first I was going to wait till Oct. 1 to decorate inside, but think maybe mid-Sept. now. Balcony I'll do a few weeks before Halloween maybe. Gotta see how the wind is first.

I will be going through my bins to see what I have. Like you natascha I don't remember everything I bought. I still have a lot of stuff at my parents house so will have to go and pick a bunch of that stuff up.

You put yours away?! Tsk, tsk, tsk. No dedication.

Seriously though, I wait till Oct 1st and wait till after thanksgiving to take down the general fall stuff(pumpkins, scarecrows, etc.)

Well, I too have started going through boxes. One primary reason being that I buy costumes 1/2 or more off end of season and build pvc armatures for the next season costumed with those purchases, I have to get at them. Secondly, I typically decide in the first two weeks of August what my theme is for this year and thus what I keep, need to acquire, as well as what to sell through a third party on Ebay. My Ebay seller comes by, picks up the items, lists them, sells them, and gives me back 70% of what they sold for. Since I typically buy higher end props off season, I typically sell what I am not going to use, even at a 30% haircut, for what I paid and sometimes more. That way I am constantly rotating my displays and upgrading without a huge investment. I have gone from zero pneumatic to 8 pneumatic props this year. This year I have upgraded to a Minions Web D webber as well as an air cannon and freight train horns, I can hardly wait. The seller came by last Friday and took 34 boxes, I already have another 23 boxes for the next pick up. I am already unloading all boxes and props to go in my graveyard and have them stacked in one end of my garage. I am computerizing and categorizing all my inventory and will store everything in the order I decorate, the pieces that go out last will be at the back of my storage and my graveyard will be first accessible. Oh, the madness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...and if someone wanted to "browse" your Ebay items...what would they search under?

I usually decorate in the begining of october. Then like the weeked before halloween put out the more expensive stuff.
