Does anyone think they are overdone and cliched at this point for Halloween? Have the greasepaint and red noses along with the scallywags of the highseas joined other overdone and tired Halloween costumes and props like the 'chainsaw killer' or 'hockey mask guy'?
No offense to anyone here if that's your thing but............Anyone else getting tired of these scares?

Who is it overdone for? If you're talking about a Halloween forum and the amount of people doing those, sure, but if you're talking about my neighborhood or my town, no.
That's the reason I'm doing a pirate theme. I haven't seen it done by anyone in my neighborhood for the 3 years I've been here (though I'm lucky to see any set ups at all). And little kids aren't going to say, "Gee Timmy, this pirate thing is just been played out too much, let's not enjoy this elaborate pirate-themed house with the working canon and authentically dressed homeowners; "You're right Billy. Pirates of the Caribbean has drained me of this long-time genre and to deal with it another night of the year is well... *sigh* Let's just get our candy and go to that next house with no decorations. I bet they love entertaining kids." Together: "AND NO PIRATES!" They laugh.
Annnnnnyway, for me - Halloween is about entertaining the tot's and they never seem to grow tired of a great, good, or even poorly done home 'haunt.' Children still dress as dracula, ghosts and other ancient costumes.
Like I said, who is it played out for? Us on the forum that have to see a minimum of two pirate or circus threads per page (expect a couple more from me
)? The tots? Never.
I hope I didn't take anything you said out of context. I debated for quite some time if I wanted to do a pirate theme, but when I realized what I just explained in my short story, it made sense. For me, I have never been to a pirate themed or circus themed home haunt - either as a kid or trick or treating with my kid. So this is a first for us!

I don't get tired of any of these things cause we could say the same thing about ghosts vampires & cemeteries. The thing is with the constant flow of new members coming in with new ideas ya never know what you are going to stumble onto. And for the new members interested in these types of things but are clueless where to start.....well we are their inspiration.
just my opinion
Muf
PS just wanted to add to DT's reply there........I never been to a clown or pirate theme ether or even saw one & I'm 50. Is that a hint that I should get out more??MMM!!lol

No offense taken, nor none meant.
It just seems that everywhere I turn - I frankly see clowns or pirates. I'm much more old school and love vampires, werewolves, monsters, ghouls and the like. But more and more everything seems to be gravitating to the two I mentioned in my post. It's everywhere.
Just wanted to see what y'all thought is all

clowns, pirates, vamps, werewolves, etc. it can all be cliche and overdone if you make it that way.
yeah, on halloween it gets a little tiring to see 50 jack sparrows ages 5-15 but atleast they're dressed up and enjoying themselves. some people just find a costume that works and they go with it, and make it great.
others, like myself, need to change it up from time to time to shake things up and surprise people....somewhere in the north-woods darkness, a creature walks upright.
And the best advice you may ever get is never to go out…at night.

I hope pirates aren't overdone this year in my neighborhood or my trunk-or-treat, the two events I set up for. Cause my new static piece is a haunted pirate ship I built out of a canoe. I built it for my 5 year old son's birthday party (pirate themed of course) and it is going to be easy to convert it to a halloween themed ship. Pictures and a how-to are available at Welcome to the Frontpage.

Gosh, I hope people aren't tired of pirates! I have never come across a house that was dedicated to a pirate theme, so I thought it would be cool to do something different.
